ShadowShopper Description

ShadowShopper is an online membership program that offers mystery shopping assignments for the people who join. This program recruits mystery shoppers for different types of business evaluation jobs, such as evaluating restaurants, retail stores or even spas. This program claims to have access to hundreds of companies that need evaluation by mystery shoppers on a regular basis.

ShadowShopper Detailed Overview

ShadowShopper is a program that acts as the “middle man” between mystery shoppers and the companies who need them. Mystery shoppers have been around for a long time, and a lot of people have done this type of work to make extra money without having to have an outside job. Companies hire people to pretend to be regular shoppers, and these people evaluate the service that they get from individual establishments and their employees. When you join Shadow Shopper, you get access to a company directory, and when the opportunity arises that is right for you, you can apply for and hopefully be sent out on a mystery shopping assignment.

You can join Shadow Shopper as a free member, but they make it pretty clear that you probably wouldn’t get any mystery shopping jobs at that level. There are two paid levels; gold and silver, and when you pay for membership you get more options, such as being able to mystery-shop with your spouse and getting access to more jobs. At the gold level, you are supposed to get the most options and the most jobs.

The problem that a lot of people have with programs like Shadow Shopper is that they promise a lot and deliver little. There are free ways to get mystery shopper jobs, and usually you can get more updated lists of participating companies than what you can get with these online programs that charge money. The claims of how much money you can make are overstated as well. Mystery shopping can be good for some extra spending money, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who makes a full-time living this way.

Note:  If you're on IM Report Card because you're looking for a way to make money online, then you should check out our top recommendation.  It's the best method we've found that anyone can use to earn income online.  Click here to learn more!

ShadowShopper Reputation

Though there are some people who say that it’s worked for them, the majority of the feedback about ShadowShopper from those who have tried the service has not been very good. Many people have complained that the program charged membership fees on their credit cards even when they weren’t authorized to or after membership had been cancelled. There are plenty of places online to find free resources for mystery shopping jobs; it looks like that might be a better idea.

Not very happy

I joined this website and was not very happy with it. I did not get a lot of offers since I do not live in a major town. I guess if you live in a major town it might be different. I quit even trying.

Not so good

I do not suggest you sign up for Shadow Shopper. One should not have to pay $20 in order to get a job. So I opted for the free membership. But I never heard from them again. Also got an inbox filled with spam! Not a good way to do business.

ShadowShopper Lists Legitimate Mystery Shopping Opps

I am an MSPA silver certified mystery shopper. I've been a mystery shopper for over ten years. I had both a free and paid membership to ShadowShopper. I actually scored legitimate mystery shopping jobs through both types of membership. However, my free membership was years ago when the site first started.

I used ShadowShopper for about three years and got many jobs. Eventually, I linked with most of these companies directly by registering with their individual websites. When I achieved this, I ended my ShadowShopper membership to save money. After all, why pay for something when you can get it for free? I also felt at that point the free membership didn't really have many job offers of value.

Mystery shopping is all about timing. To get jobs, you have to be there first and it's competitive. When you use a service like ShadowShopper, it's essential to do a daily job search rather than wait for job announcements that may never come. If another savvy shopper get there first, the job opening may only exist for an hour. Timing is critical.

Overall, I think ShadowShopper is a great resource for newbies looking to gain experience and get their feet wet. Once you get the overall idea, you can go it alone without paying a fee for a service.

I fired my boss a decade ago and now work at home full-time. Why not join me?

Not worth it's Platinum membership

I signed up for shadow shopper almost 5 years ago with a bronze membership and got one $7 gig to go a bank that was a two hour drive from where I lived. At first I thought ok maybe if I upgrade my membership it would get better. I waited for a friend of mine to upgrade to tell me if it made a difference. I didn't want to waste my money and I'm so glad I didn't because my friend with her platinum membership didn't get any better results than I with a bronze membership.

Mystery Shopping Nightmare

I joined and I paid for this service, thinking that I was going to make some cash. Little did I know that what I had just done was throw cash out the window. I would have liked to have been able to make something off this site. They do offer jobs, but many times when you apply, you either never hear back or what they have you do is nothing but a time waster. I won't recommend this site. Don't throw your money into this. You get nothing in return. I wish I had known how bad they were before I even joined. Thank goodness I cancelled out of this before it was too late.

Not the greatest

I joined the site a while back and the cheapest offer they had because I was a little skeptical about it. After about 3 weeks or so I got an offer and thought that maybe the work would come rolling in at that point. I was wrong. That was the first and last time I ever got any offer from any company. I don't recommend paying money to this site.

Waste of Time

I have been a member of Shadow Shopper before, both paid and unpaid, but neither time was worth it. At first, I thought I wasn't getting enough opportunities since I was only a free member. When I signed up as a paying member and began applying to jobs, I found that the ones out there were limited & not necessarily available to the first time shopper. Truth be told, most of the companies I talked to preferred to have someone experienced who had already been a mystery shopper. Shadow Shopper talks a big talk about "anyone, anywhere" can mystery shop, but that simply isn't the case. Also, the website is filled with "other jobs" besides mystery shopping. For example, doing product demos. Is that what you signed up for though? I think not, so again disappointing on their part. After several months of the same nonsense, no increase in mystery shopping listings, and seeing the same shops offered by the same few companies over and over, I drew the line and cancelled my membership. Even at the paltry $4.99 trial fee, my time is more valuable than being wasted on their site.

Shadow Shopper Is Legit

About a year ago I quit my job at Pizza Hut for something where I could do independent contractor jobs. I was sick of having a boss and wanted to try something different. I came across shadowshopper.com and was skeptical about signing up, but did anyways. I am so glad I did! You can start out being a free member but you won't get any work. You have to upgrade, but you will find jobs. I have been a member for about 1 year now and have member a part-time income from doing Product Demonstrations and Mystery Shopping. They have a great search feature where you type in your zip code and they show you all the independent contractor jobs in your area. They give you lots of different companies that are hiring for product demonstrators (food sampling), and mystery shoppers and auditors. I was hired from several of these companies have done countless jobs from this site! This site saved me because I couldn't find any other online job at the time, and I had already quit my "real" job. These are real companies that post jobs on this site, folks!

Experience with Shadow Shopper

I have previously been involved with the Shadow Shopper program. Although I received a few shopping opportunities, it was in no way a way to make a living. I received opportunities to complete theater shops, shoe shops, restaurants, and at one point I had to stand outside of a store and take a picture of the store to show that I had been there. You are required to pay money out of your own pocket for most of the shops and later you will be reimbursed. I would consider participating with the program again, keeping in mind that I may get only a few dollars of spending money and still need to maintain another source of income.

Don’t waste your time and save your inbox the agony

I signed up to this site about a month ago and quit it about a weeks ago. There is the option with the site to be a free member or to become a paid member with obviously more benefits for $20 but I just wanted to try out the site so a free member I stayed.

I must admit 3 weeks wasn’t really me giving the site much of a chance but in that time I received no money making opportunities but did have my email inbox spammed constantly which just became annoying and very tedious. I wouldn’t recommend this site and have heard any opportunities they give are few are far between though in all that time they happily spam your inbox!

I'd stay away

I signed up for their "free" service and was less than satisfied. You are constantly bombarded with emails encouraging the 20 dollar upgrade. And I eventually quit after no jobs were found in my area. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I'd say try the site and see if you like it. For me I was glad I could try it out on their "free" membership (they try charging you after 7 days).

Don't pay to join

I was a free member of Shadow Shopper for about a year. I never paid to join as I didn't feel that it was necessary. Granted, I didn't get any jobs directly from Shadow Shopper. However, I did find out about other mystery shopping companies that were looking for people. Instead of paying to join Shadow Shopper, I went to the other company websites and joined from there. It was helpful to learn about the other companies that I could join for free, but beyond that I didn't find it worth the time. There are so many legitimate mystery shopping sites that are free, that I would never pay for one.

This site is a scam

I joined this site and paid $20 because this site said it would give you a job to make money but I never got any email from this site about anything. The only thing I got in my email from this site was spam. This site is a big scam and you will not get your $20 back and you will not get rich from this program. I recommend you don't sign up for this program either free or by paid membership because you are just wasting your time and your money.

Beware of this site!

As enticing as it sounds.. To get paid to shop, please be careful with this program.

Firstly, I also did not believe in paying for a "job opportunity" so I chose the free option.

I never received any job opportunities but instead I got an enormous amount of spam in my inbox!

After being unsuccessful with this site, I then decided to do some more research on it and was really surprised by the amount of complaints I found on RipoffReport and BBB for this site. I am very happy that I didn't choose to pay the $20, and I wouldn't recommend anyone do so either!

Disappointed

Before I started with the GPT Sites I tried out the ShadowShopper. First off, let me say I never made any money on this site. Because I refused to pay $20 for a job, I had the free membership and I never heard anything from them. I do not believe you should have to pay money in order to make money. If you are willing to pay money for them to profit off of youm then check it out, but I would not recommend this opportunity or more like disappointment to anyone. There are others way to earn money without paying any money.

Pay attention to details... :)

I first got into shadow shopping about two years ago and Shadow Shopper was the first 'broker' site I found. I only signed up for the Bronze level and immediately started getting emails. There was a 'hook' and not much else... except the push to upgrade to Silver or Gold.

Being new to the business, I was unfamiliar with a lot of the information, but after a couple of weeks I started noticing a pattern and other pieces of information on every job listing. I started tracking them online and I now have an incredible list of sites and companies that I work for on a regular basis and actually make some money. Like ANY job opportunity, it took some time and hard work, and maybe I am the only one to pick up on the clues, but it helped me.

Good luck...

Not recommended

I joined Shadow Shopper over a year ago and paid the membership fee. Boy was I disappointed! First of all, most of the jobs that you do find prefer experienced shoppers. When I applied for some of the mystery shopping jobs, they all wanted to know what experience I had. Well, duh, none unless you count my 20 some odd years as a consumer... and that didn't seem to count.

You have to fill out a detailed profile about yourself also.

After only a month or so, I canceled my membership and found my mystery shopping jobs elsewhere... without spending another dime.

If you decide to join, DON'T purchase the membership. It isn't worth it!

Not pleased

Before I ran into good moneymaking sites and opportunities I was trying out ShadowShopper. It became a really bad first experience for me at making money online. I didn't make a cent.

There were never any opportunities for me to begin with.

I had signed up with the free account and was skeptical about paying for my membership.

I do not recommend this site to others unless they wish to be spammed constantly. There are better opportunities out there.

Not good

This site either lets you become a free or paid member. Of course the paid membership plan gives you more options. I didn't want to pay the $20, and I was still skeptical about it, so I signed up for a free basic account.

I barely got any opportunities to make money with this site. Also, I got an E-mail inbox filled with spam mail.

I am not using this site anymore. If you are thinking of joining, don't. If you do sign up, definitely go get paid membership.

Not worth the time or money to sign up

I suggest you not signing up for Shadow Shopper. One should not have to pay $20 in order to get a job. So I opted for the free membership. But I never heard from them again. It is pretty lame when the company will not get back to you either. I think they want you to sign up as a paid member so they profit from you. If you sign up as a free member you may not get any jobs like me.

Not a 'scam' BUT...

If you're looking for mystery shopper opportunities, It's probably best to look elsewhere. Shadow Shopper acts as the middleman between it's customers and various companies looking for mystery shoppers. If you don't mind paying a $20 membership fee for convenience, maybe you should give it a try. That's not to say that it doesn't require work. It DOES. You cannot just sit there and wait for these opportunities. That's how you end up with no work, and $20 lost. So if you're willing to put the time into it, like any other online money-making website, give it a try. Also, there is a free membership... HOWEVER, after 7 days of usage, they will start charging you for full membership fees. So, be careful if you do sign up.

Shadow Shopper

I belonged to Shadow Shopper last year. I did not find this to be a helpful service because the mystery shopping assignments were few and far between. Also there were a variety of other low wage jobs thrown into the mix such as merchandiser or fast food for instance. I cancelled my service after one month. I applied for one shopping job and never heard back from the store.
