Survey Scout Description

Survey Scout, marketed by Susan Smith, is one of several companies that claims to provide cash compensation to individuals in exchange for completing online surveys. Many times this is positioned as a "home-based business opportunity", but the truth is that many of these companies engage in deceptive and even fraudulent business activities in an effort to persuade people to join their websites. Disclosure: Survey Scout's owners overlap with the owners of IMReportcard.com, LLC.

Survey Scout Detailed Overview

Have you heard about the opportunity to make money by completing surveys online? It sounds like a terrific opportunity, especially when you consider that it can be done from virtually anywhere - even your home. There are, in fact, very real opportunities to help major national corporations with their market research by completing surveys. What companies like Survey Scout claim to do is match up companies that are seeking consumers for surveys with people who are searching to earn some extra income by completing them. Unfortunately Survey Scout, like many other companies in this space, is a bad deal for consumers, and if you are considering joining up with them, you will want to pay close attention to our review.

What is Survey Scout?

Survey Scout is a members-only website that claims to provide its subscribers exclusive access to high paying survey opportunities for major national corporations.

Is Survey Scout a scam?

To answer this question, it is helpful to remember that a major corporation can sometimes spend millions of dollars bringing a new product to the marketplace. In an effort to reduce the risk associated with this venture, these companies will often spend with smaller amounts of money by surveying very specific focus groups prior to launching a new product or service. So, the simple fact is that survey opportunities do in fact exist.

The problem with companies like Survey Scout is that they are charging for information which anyone can find for themselves online, for free. Further, when was the last time that you had to pay someone else to work for them? In essence, this is what people who join websites like Survey Scout are being asked to do. With so much at stake for the company conducting the survey, doesn't it only make sense that they would want to compensate people properly in an effort to get the very best information possible?

One of the things that is conveniently omitted by companies like Survey Scout, is that unless you are of a certain age, gender or ethnicity it is unlikely that you will have the opportunity to complete a large amount of surveys. If you cannot complete enough surveys to surpass the cost of your “membership”, then what is the point of joining the website to begin with? Remember, too, that most major corporations do not pay individuals with cash to complete surveys, so claims from companies like Survey Scout that you can earn large amounts of money should be a dead giveaway that the service is a scam.

If you're looking to earn money online taking surveys, you will want to check our top recommendations for Legitimate and FREE Paid Survey Companies.

Note:  If you're on IM Report Card because you're looking for a way to make money online, then you should check out our top recommendation.  It's the best method we've found that anyone can use to earn income online.  Click here to learn more!

Survey Scout Reputation

Survey Scout is a website that promotes itself to be an ideal “home-based business opportunity” for people who want to earn a significant amount of extra income by completing online surveys. Regrettably, Survey Scout provides little more than a list of actual survey websites which could have been researched by anyone on their own. Like other “paid survey” companies, Survey Scout suffers from a poor reputation with consumers.

Update - This site does not pay you for doing surveys - they merely charge you money for a list of *other* companies that may or may not pay you for surveys. We do not recommend paying for a list of survey sites like this. Please read our Paid Surveys Scam article for more information on these types of sites.

Survey Scout just isn't for me...

Well, I have tried this one and felt it was ridiculous. I would get all the way through a survey only to find out that I didn't qualify. Not once, not twice, but every single time! I live in Kentucky, but does that mean I don't shop? I hardly think so. Anyway, I don't recommend survey sites at all, especially not this one. Sorry, but it's a thumbs down. Good luck to those who can figure out though.

Not a scam, and it does have some value.

After a month, I can honestly say that it does have some value as a resource for beginners. As several other reviewers have noted, there are opportunities for free membership, and if you take the time to read the intro and associated information there are some helpful tips.

You do have to have patience, and build a reliable reputation with each survey company. They will not send high paying surveys or focus group invites to new members unless you happen to be in a sought after demographic (a stay at home mom with really good income and a penchant for shopping).

My best advice is to get a free membership, follow Ms. Smiths advice on setting up a dedicated email (BEFORE you start signing up, I ran into some difficulties switching some company's over, you can be banned for more than one account from the same IP Address) and don't expect cash in heaps. If you enjoy surveys, and seeing products before their released then it can be extra money, and focus groups do pay well.

There are many sites that are free, but the extra info if you are serious is worth something (and best if you can get a month free).

Not worth signing up for

When I first signed up for Survey Scout, I had high hopes of making big money. But days passed and no surveys came. When they did come, it was only one or two and I always never qualified. And they only told me that after 5 minutes of questions. In the 5 months that I have joined Survey Scout, I have only received 6 surveys, and only qualified for one, which did not earn me very much. I don't know if this is the same with other people, but I wouldn't recommend it. The hype built up around this site is too high.

Another waste of time site.

I have been a member of the site, and I removed myself within 2 weeks. It is not at all what the site seems. You are wasting your time if you think you are going to make money from this site. I never received any surveys, but you get tons of spam from them though and who wants all that? I know I don't. Survey Scout is not legit and is not worth your time. Please be aware when you go to Survey Scout.

Very Disappointed

Oh yes, I was another ignorant member of SurveyScout quite a few years ago. I signed up and was promised almost too good to be true income by doing surveys online.

Once inside, I found that a lot of the survey companies to sign up with were not available to those residing in Canada. Most were for USA based residents only.

I was also told that if I signed up with a certain number of companies in their list that I would be rewarded a certain amount of money once I sent the conformation emails.

Once I did all that, I never received the "reward". I was already disappointed with SurveyScout but then I was told the reason that I wasn't being rewarded is because the offer was good for USA members only.

I was not able to sign with many survey sites through Survey Scout that applied to me as a Canadian. I also found that a majority of the surveys sites do not pay cash but reward survey panelists by placing them in a Sweepstakes entry. Some pay points which can be redeemed for shopping gift cards on certain sites. Only a few surveys sites redeem your accumulated points for cash that I know of.

I was able to find far more survey sites to join free, simply by doing Google searches and reading many blogs and forums.

I requested a refund immediately. I had no problem getting my credit card refunded and warn others to never pay for a list of Survey Sites when you can find these companies to join online at not cost whatsoever.

Almost scams

When a website like Survey Scout promises you large sums of money for very little work, you can tell that it's a scam. Signing up for Survey Scout was a bad idea. I was so excited about all the money they were promising I would make. But, it turns out they didn't give you many surveys, and they didn't pay very well either. It took me a couple months before I could cash out. But one thing I can say is that they do pay you.

I found survey scout the first time with a fee of $36, a week later I found it again FREE!

I came across Survey Scout while reading about secret shopping. If I paid $36 dollars, I would make $100 dollars a day. During a survey that I took the other day, Survey Scout came up as one of the company's partner sites you could sign up for to make more money. The sign up was free. I did sign up and looked around. All the survey sites that it took me over a month to figure out were bogus ones I found on Survey Scout's site. You could join these only after signing up for offers. Soon there after, I cancelled Survey Scout. I did send an email to the director of the site I did the survey for in the first place. If she gets enough emails maybe things will change. There are a handful of these survey sites that are asking for payment to join. If you are really looking to work at home, you will find Survey Scout with a free membership when you least expect it.

Survey Scout

Survey Scout is not at all what they promise to be. They promise that after you pay the one time fee that you will have unlimited access to many surveys to create a living. Most of the sites they had listed I was already a member of, and I could never make enough to reach cashout!

Too difficult to qualify!

Like most survey sites, Survey Scout pays a meager amount of money for about half an hour of work (about 1 dollar to 2 dollars). What's even worse, however, is that Survey Scout makes you qualify for certain surveys in order to take them. I only qualified for two surveys and I didn't have enough money to cash out. I already wasted three hours getting nothing done. I see no future with Survey Scout, and I advise anyone considering signing up to stop immediately.

Another Waste Of Time

I've tried this site, along with numerous other survey sites, and they all seem to be the same. You spend a lot of time filling out information only to find out you don't qualify to take the survey, but you're always entered in some obscure sweepstakes that will take place at some time in the distant future. I'll stop short of calling this site a scam, but it certainly doesn't deliver what it advertises. Don't waste your time.

Survey Scout, Not worth Your Time

Let's see, I signed up with survey scout over 3 years ago. They only sent me ads and more ads. Also, if they ever sent me surveys, I not once qualified for any of them. There is another survey company like this one. If I can remember their name, I will see if they can be added to this website. I am not a fan of survey sites that want you to buy something either. That is not a survey site to me at all.

Now, I have been making money with survey sites for a long time now. With some of the survey sites, I can make over $100. This one was just a waste of time.

Not too bad for free

I got my membership for free when I paid $34.95 to join Project Payday as Survey Scout came with it for free.

There are a few survey companies I couldn't find anywhere using general searches on the internet that are in SurveyScout.

The database isn't updated on a regular basis and when I tried to let them know about some mistakes, it's like I'd never mentioned anything because I never got any type of response back from them.

Overall it's not bad, but I certainly wouldn't encourage anyone to pay for the membership.

Was a member

I became a member of survey scout in Oct 2008. They claim to offer a database of survey sites to choose from. This they do. They claim you can make money taking surveys. This you can. They claim that you will make good money from doing surveys. This you won't. Not from their list. Please stay away!

Don't bother trying

You will never make a substantial amount of money with survey sites. I am a member of several survey sites and have only been invites to take one survey. It is difficult to qualify for surveys. I've never made any money from survey sites since I was never able to make cashout. Furthermore most surveys take about 20 minutes and only pay 1-3 dollars.

You will be charged for Info already available online!

Most Survey sites like Survey Scout are only charging you for list of companies that are already available online. I have learned about Survey Scout from a PTC site and also on YouTube. Being a newbie at that time a few years back I was easily encouraged to sign up and paid the fee. They offered a lot of free programs to go with all the other survey lists etc. Most of the survey companies too are only available for US/Canadian residents and the free Ebay kit that's included is not available for international customers. I didn't really get my investment back. Overall I wouldn't recommend it to customers. If you want to join survey companies just do your research and you'll be thankful because there are really a lot out there you can join for free.

SurveyScout Might as well be a scam

I encountered SurveyScout a long time ago. Luckily I didn't have a credit or debit card to sign up, because I probably would have wasted my money too. Over the years of browsing forums, I came to find that the survey places they gave were the very same places I had found on my own; such as Survey Spot, Greenfield online, and a few others.

Second, like the review says, there is no guarantee that you will qualify for the cash surveys they give. Paying for the SurveyScout service does nothing to up the chances of you qualifying.

Finally, given this last statement, the claim that SurveyScout can earn you lots of money is false, unless they have implemented an affiliate program where you can dupe the next sucker with it. There is no way you can make a livable income from online surveys, simply because the income will be too sporadic. Any site that says otherwise is lying.

In short, even though this site is saying that Survey Scout isn't a scam, with all the false claims and expectations they set, it might as well be.

Not really that great

I did sign up for this, and I totally agree that it does not live up to all their hype. Thank goodness it didn't cost anything! What really sucked about it was that after looking over their 'list' I found that 95% were sites that I had either already signed up for, or dumped it for not fulfilling my needs. I have put it into my 'survey list sites' folder, but haven't seen any new updates for it yet. Trust me it is not worth going through all the trouble to sign up for this one, you will definitely be disappointed.

Another useless survey site

I signed up for the survey scout product and I joined in this on March 2009. Till now I got only around 10 surveys. When I tried to take a survey after a few questions they say that we got enough responses for this product sorry you are not qualified for this survey good luck for future surveys. I used to think what the heck is this? Sometimes when I was taking a survey after a few questions it will say we need only people of certain demographic group, unfortunately you didn't qualify for this.

Really I would say not to join this site if anyone wants to make decent money from taking surveys. Better opt out of this site.
