Dave Ramsey Bio

Dave Ramsey is a financial expert with a nationally syndicated radio show called the “Dave Ramsey Show.” He is a New York Times bestselling author of the popular book The Total Money Makeover and has been featured in many media outlets teaching people how to get out of debt, save for retirement and manage their finances.

Dave Ramsey Detailed Overview

When it comes to money, very few people can be what you call a financial wizard. Most of us think that we have our finances under control but in reality, very few of us even know where our money is being spent every month. Dave has been teaching people to take control of their finances for years and is the financial advisor for the average person.

His philosophies on managing money and investing have changed people’s lives. Thousands of his readers have benefited from his advice, eliminating their debt and taking control of their financial situations. Some of his ideas include starting an emergency fund, paying off your debt by highest balance, investing 15% into retirement annually, and paying your home off early.

Dave’s most popular product is his book Total Money Makeover. It is a New York Times Bestseller and is one of the most popular financial guides. The book takes you through seven steps to creating financial freedom but I’ll only talk about the first three which Dave calls the baby steps.

In the book, Dave first suggests you save $1,000 as an emergency fund before you do anything else. This fund can be used for medical bills, car repairs, and other things. This is important as you don’t want to be in a situation where you can’t pay your way out of an emergency because you’ve spent your money on everything else.

You are then told to start eliminating your debt by listing your debts from lowest to highest and chipping away at your lowest debts (the leftover money goes to your bigger debts). Conventional debt advice tells you to focus on getting rid of the debt with the highest interest rate and balance. Dave states his strategy (called the Debt Snowball) is to give you a psychological boost and get you in the mindset of working away at your debt.

Next, Dave advises that you start to build your emergency fund after you get rid of your debt. While $1,000 is enough for smaller emergencies, most crises will probably require you to spend a huge some money. The book recommends you build the emergency fund to 3-6 months worth of living expenses to protect yourself.

The Financial Peace University is another popular course by Dave. The program is a 13-week course that comes with homework, books and online classes. You are taught money management strategies from cash flow planning, debt elimination, savings accumulation, planning investments to planning your retirement fund.

Both the book and online course has received positive reviews from customers with the Financial Peace University boasting that the average graduate pays off $5,300 in debt and saving $2,700 in 13 weeks. Dave sells other books such as the Financial Peace Revisited, The Money Answer, and the More Than Enough. He also sells a video course called The Town Hall For Hope DVDs.

Dave Ramsey Reputation

Dave’s teachings have won many glowing testimonials from customers that have gotten out of debt and put themselves on the right path. I skimmed over his Total Money Makeover book and feel that his strategies are right on target but many critics have said that his strategies are obvious and simple.

I do feel there are some adjustments you have to make in his teachings. I think that the Debt Snowball strategy would be better off if you concentrate paying off your bigger high interest debt for most months but switch over to paying off smaller debts every now and then. Dave also suggests saving for your children’s college tuition before paying down your mortgage which I don’t agree with. At the end of the day, it’s your call how you want to approach these issues. Aside from that, Dave has some solid advice and his teachings are worth looking into.

Dave Ramsey - Great Instructions for Financial challenges

Dave Ramsey's radio program and books are great information in helping those that are facing financial challenges. He doesn't promise you an easy way out of your money situation, but guides you through a process to "work" your way out of debt and have financial freedom. He gives you hope, but is not sympathetic to those not willing to sacrifice your life style now to live a much better one later. If you work his system as out lined in his radio shows and book "Financial Peace" you can overcome your financial crises. It gives you the basics, through guide lines to set a budget covering every penny you earn, and to live within it. He makes realistic suggestions for earning the additional income to payoff your debt. His system is very much to review and follow.

Dave Ramsey's "Financial Peace University"

The advice Dave Ramsey gives is basically common sense, you can get from your own parents & grandparents. Everyone knows we need to save. Everyone knows we need to pay off our debts. Dave Ramsey even admits this.

So how does Dave Ramsey get away with CHARGING people for this stuff?

Dave Ramsey charges businesses for his endorsement. Businesses pay him money, and Dave Ramsey recommends them to people who pay him money for his advice. Dave Ramsey does not endorse businesses unless they pay him a fee.

How is it Christian or ethical to charge for the advice you give - not just once but twice?!

Dave Ramsey marketing organization

Mr. Ramsey does unarguably have a tremendous 'coaching' ability and is quite entertaining as he 'advises' his callers.

However, Mr. Ramsey's organization is primarily a 'marketing' organization. One cannot begrudge Mr. Ramsey's ability of turning his negative experience into something positive nor from his capitalizing on a single basic principle through the use of public platforms. It is also important to note that Mr. Ramsey's 'Endorsed Local Providers' are not vetted as to their qualifications. They are simply folks that are willing to pay Mr. Ramsey for 'referrals'. Yes Mr. Ramsey operates a sales 'lead' service for those who were the first to 'buy-in' to his marketing plan.

It is also important to note though that his 'one size fits all' is not sound guidance. He clearly demonstrates his lack of professional financial training and objectivity.

The public in general is not versed in the financial services industry. The industry has a plethora of tools (and yes debt is also a tool) to help people. The problem is that ANY tool can be used either constructively OR destructively.

Whether a tool is being used constructively depends most on the individual selecting the tool. Does that person have integrity? Is the person competent? Is the person dedicated to their profession and their clients? Yes, these are some of the factors one must know when selecting ANY 'professional'.

Individuals not knowledgeable in a particular field are compelled to depend on the advice of others. As the saying goes, "You either get smart or stay stupid, it depends on you. " If one chooses to 'stay stupid' one will pay a disproportionate share of Mr. Ramsey's "stupid tax".

Mr. Ramsey promotes some financial tools and condemns others. Through such broad strokes, his advice does hurt some people. Mr. Ramsey is not a CPA, he is not an attorney, he does not even hold the qualifications of a financial planner.

So when considering his advice, it is important to note that it is your responsibility to properly vet the credentials of anyone he 'recommends' and to remember that these individuals 'pay significantly' for the 'privilege' of Mr. Ramsey's endorsement.

Putting Money where his Mouth is!

I was introduced to Dave Ramsey by a friend. I've listened to him several times and learn something about how to save/spend money each time. I am sometimes amazed at how simple ideas can have affects that are have a great impact as well as how simple errors can have affects that can be disastrous! His program is helping me change age-old patterns of incorrect money management. Thank you for this tip!

Dave Ramsey Tells It Like It Is

Went through Dave's Financial Peace University a couple of years ago. Most people get into trouble with credit card debt and Dave explains common sense ideas about eliminating debt as soon as possible and some iron clad practice to put into place to reduce and eventually eliminate debt. To be debt free. I think is everyone's dream. We are taught today to impulse buy and buy things that we don't need with money we don't have. Behavior must change for this to work but it does work. Depending on how much debt you have it may take some folks longer but perseverance will pay off. I am still working on it. Some folks don't like the way some material is presented but you have to admit he is right on in his assessment of how we get into debt. A lot of sites lure you to information that really won't help you but this one for sure is worth your time and effort.

Total Money Makeover

I have personally used Dave Ramsey's teachings and it has changed my financial family tree. Some complain because what he teaches is so basic and obvious, but most of those people are still in massive debt. The simple truth and principles he teaches will work for anyone. Is it easy? NO! Most will have to drastically change their spending and lifestyle, but freedom is at the end of the journey.

I have taken his advice and applied it, I have also added a second income stream to help me reduce my debt faster.

If you are choking in debt, Dave Ramsey is the man for you. He can help!

Dave Rocks!

We've been following Dave Ramsey's program/recommendations for a decade and have been debt free now since 2005. Also, our finances and blessings have massively grown and flourished over that time--God blesses those who are faithful with a little with even more. Also, tithing 10%+ has been a crucial part of our finances.

Dave has been a great inspiration, teacher and guide and continues to be. Even though we are debt free, we still very much listen to Dave's insights.

I truly believe this economy and the things that have happened in the financial and real estate industry have taught people and forced them to reexamine the foolishness and slavery of being in debt. It is extremely powerful and comforting to have no debt and actually be building wealth for future years during these trying times.

Dave has been a crucial part of our journey and continues to be.

You can do it - it just takes a real decision, a commitment. It's very doable no matter where you are starting. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Wish you all the best.

Dave Ramsey

I heard about Dave Ramsey before a year ago by a friend who told me to listen to Dave`s radio program. I did it and I was impressed. I went to buy his book-Dave Ramsey's book Financial Peace. Everything in the book was so easy to understand and his advices are very helpful too. One of the best things in the book was to live without credit. I really saved a lot of money with this book.

The book definitely worth the money. I recommend this book to all-the advices in the book can be very helpful. And also listen to his radio show-it can be helpful for you too!

Dave Does Miracles!

I was also in debt and I was struggling to find a solution. I turn to friends and family for help, but it was really hard for them to solve my problem. That’s when Dave Ramsey came into my life. When I had heard what this guy could do, I just had to give him a chance. It was like a miracle! I was able to clear my debt in a couple of months.

Ever since that, I have spent some of my time reading his books, listening to him on the radio and I have watched his TV show, and once in a while I will visit his site!

Dave has impacted so many people’s lives, when it comes to dealing with financial crisis. I’m really grateful that there are people out there like Dave who help others and make a difference in people’s lives. This guy is the best, and I recommend everyone to read his books or watch his TV show.

Decent program but I don't like his smart aleck edge

Dave Ramsey is a good source for inspiration to get serious about improving one's financial security, but I don't like the edge in his tone. He gives off an attitude that if you don't like his way, then you're wrong or will get yourself into financial trouble. He creates an us versus them type of mentality amongst his followers. Phrases such as "I see debt people" and "Play with snakes and you're gonna get bit" are condescending to those of us who believe that we can incorporate borrowing into our business and personal lives in a responsible and positive way. He has advised people to quit their jobs rather than sell on credit as their bosses required. Quitting can be dangerous to one's personal economy and purchasing decisions generally need to be left up to the buyer, not the seller. I really do think Dave Ramsey is a good plan for some people, but other plans are a better fit for other people and Dave should not make people feel that it is his way or the highway. Genuinely improving self control and personal finance is a good thing no matter the program.

Sound Advice, Fun Delivery, Honest Principles

I've been listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio for some years now. In a culture that is so used to buying everything RIGHT NOW, Ramsey's philosophy of thrift and bootstrapping and preparing for tough times is almost old-fashioned. But his info is rock solid.

While his information isn't new or original to him (the LDS church published a free pamphlet decades ago (still available) that is pretty much a replica of the "debt snowball" -- better said, the debt snowball is almost a replica of that pamphlet). But he does a few things with the material that others don't:

(1) He is a likable, funny guy who is fun to listen to

(2) He has personally experienced extreme financial hardship and so has empathy for callers in the same position

(3) He understands the EMOTIONAL aspects of money management, as well as the mathematical, and uses that as a motivator to help others change.

I highly recommend Ramsey's program for getting out of debt. Best bet, listen to the program and read the book.

Bless this man

I checked out Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover after a suggestion from a friend of mine a few months ago. Dave Ramsey gives great financial advice but it definitely takes patience to start with it. Because of Dave Ramsey’s tips I was able to pay off my credit card debts completely. Dave Ramsey is very well known and he sells people what they want to buy and read. He knows almost everything in the financial industry. This man speaks from much practical work experience that very few people have done before. There is just so much information that Dave Ramsey can teach you. I will leave it up to you to check out his products. Dave Ramsey made my financial life successful and he can do wonders for you too if you want to learn from him.

Amazing teacher

I began listening to Dave Ramsey's radio show about 5 years ago. I started making small improvements to my financial situation. Finally, about 6 months ago, my husband bought the book, "The Total Money Makeover". We read the book together and are now working on the baby-steps outlined in the book. Dave Ramsey is a very motivational writer/speaker and I found his tactics to make perfect sense. Hopefully we will be debt free now that we have a plan to get there. I highly recommend this book for all people interested in their personal financial situation.

Great author and thrifty when it comes to making money

I bought his book as a present to my brother who had just entered law school and needed to check his spending habits. "The total money Makeover" book really helped ameliorate and prioritize my brother's spending and he is barely making rent, but barely is better than borrowing from my Dad every month. The book was then passed back to me the next year and even I learned a few tricks that improved my budget. Dave Ramsey is a great author and is the person to turn to when your finances are getting out of control. A great guy in person too as I started listening to his radio broadcasts a few months ago.

Dave Ramsey Knows His Stuff

I first heard about Dave Ramsey and Total Money Makeover from my dad and stepmom. They had bought the book and were beginning to follow the steps in order to bail themselves out of a hard financial spot. I was skeptical at first that his ideas would even work, but as I slowly watched the situation with my family get better I realized there might be something to it. I borrowed the book from them and read through everything. I've also frequented his website a lot, reading the small tidbits of information he provides there. Although I only recently started to incorporate his techniques, I can already see a difference in how I control my money as well as how I view it in general. Using behavior modification to get your finances on track is a wonderful idea that really works. Paying those small bills off first really does give you a sense of accomplishment, at least it has me anyway. If you are having financial struggles, Dave Ramsey is the guy to turn to.

Life saver

A while back when I was 18-19 I moved out from my parents, got a very nice job and everything seemed to going in a right way. As the time was passing, money that I earned just somehow started slipping through my hands. I'm sure a lot of people know this feeling and know the problems that come with that. So there I was earning as much as I could but it was never enough to cover costs of life, so one day I heard Dave's radio show and the guy was talking about my kind of problems in the way like he cared about me. Next day I bought his book Total money makeover and after a few months of struggle and sacrifice I learned how to save and go around with my money. His tips stuck with me till today and I can just recommend his work to anybody who's in any kind of financial trouble.

You Rock. highly reccomend

Amazing Techniques, and tips, makes this a must get.

I have read and admired the steps in The Total Money Makeover from Dave Ramsey. This is a program that teaches how money really works and helps individuals struggling with a plan to stay on track with money by accenting behavior modification techniques as opposed to hard-core accounting. He teaches that if you don't change your behavior to put a plan in place concerning personal finances, you will find it very difficult to become successful with money. So the point is use this method!

I enjoy Dave Ramsey

The Dave Ramsey TV show is one of my favorite shows. I try to tune in as much as possible to learn as much as I can. Often I want to clean up my debt and stop using credit cards. While everyone might not agree with some of his ideas, I'm tired of living paycheck to paycheck and being in debt. I will start 2010 doing what I can to get out of debt!

I am currently reading his book Total Money Makeover. I like what I hear on his TV show and I like the book so far. I can not wait to get started with his methods and I am looking forward to calling into the show to scream that I am DEBT FREE!

Dave has helped our family

My wife and I attended a Financial Peace class at our church in 2006 and our finances have been vastly improved since. I would say the biggest benefit we learned from Mr. Ramsey is working from a budget. Although we have not been perfect, it has helped us tremendously. We used go to the grocery store and easily blow a few hundred and go out to eat without thinking about it. Now we sit down each month and determine a set amount to use when we go shopping. Plus he teaches that it is important to set aside little each month for bills that come up once or twice a year. For example, car insurance that is billed every six months for us. Not to mention that we set aside Christmas money each month, which makes it a lot less stressful during the holiday season. It sure is nice not to have any January CC bills.

As for Dave's philosophy of eliminating debt. I'm with Dave, I know just about any financial expert tells you to take care of the highest interest rate first. But eliminating the smallest debt first appeals to the emotions of someone who is fighting debt. Take as if your boss gives you a bunch of small tasks and one big task. Most, at least I do, will do the small task first, it makes you feel that you are making progress. At least that how my wife and I approached it. I recommend Dave Ramsey to any one who is in financial need.

Just Getting Started

Dave Ramsey... Like others, I first heard of Dave Ramsey through my church, then on Fox News. I like his teaching and I'm finding that it works for me. I've learned to set goals and I've learned patience. It took awhile for me to get into the financial mess I'm in, it will take awhile to get out. I definitely recommend his book, videos and seminars as a starting point for those desiring a more secure financial base.

Dave Ramsey is a very wise man!

I have followed the teachings of Dave Ramsey for a while now. My brother first told me about him over a year ago. When I first started watching his show on the fox business network I thought he was a nut job and a bit extreme in how to tackle overwhelming debt. However I found the more I listened and heard callers with life changing situations that had become debt free, I realized Dave might be on to something! I have listened to his radio show (which you can get for free at his website online) and I have bought the total money make over book.

Dave Ramsey's methods are NOT for the light of heart but he is serious about his methods in eliminating debt. The debt snowball is an amazing and powerful tool he teaches you to use that eliminates debt as you continue to grow it. He may seem extreme in his methods at first but give it a try, it really works. I am currently done paying off over half my debt and I am going strong. Two thumbs way up for Dave and his advice on finance!

I live in Nashville - Dave's home base

Since I live and work in Nashville, I have many friends that have used his products and also have friends that either currently work for him or have worked with him in the past. One of my current business associates was his partner when he started his radio program, and I've heard him say that he wishes he had stayed with him. The worst thing I have ever heard said about Dave is that he sure has a big ego. The people I know that work for him love him and the way he treats them and they rave about how much they are learning while earning. Dave can be harsh and loud but if you hear him talking to people, you realize, many of them aren't listening so he may have to raise his voice to get their attention. Although there is no such thing as one size fits all... Dave has it, hands down on what most American's miss... How to live within your means... AND... increase your wealth while doing so. He was one of the founders of the first and largest real estate investment association here in Nashville of which I am an active member and we still ask him to come back and speak to our group. Like most "gurus" Dave has a variety of courses and books at various entry levels so no one needs to be left out. Catch his energetic radio programs and give him a call with your story and he may just send you one of his books or courses free. If you do have it all together financially, you may not need him. If you can't figure out why you can't make your next mortgage payment and this isn't the first time you've struggled... I suggest you make it a habit of listening in to his program regularly.

How Do You Think Dave Got Rich

I've seen Mr. Ramsey on television and was somewhat impressed with his snippets of info on managing your finances. I have turned to his website several times looking for real concrete info on debt reduction but was always somewhat disappointed. He offers free advice that was pretty basic, but in order to really succeed, his website has many, many teasers for you to buy into his products (i.e. books, videos, downloadable tools, etc. ). Don't waste your money, instead visit your local library where you will find a wealth of books on personal finance for FREE.

Dave Ramsey is a financial expert

I have heard about him in the past on the radio. He has been successful in his field of expertise. I think this guy can help anyone in similar situation because he has been there and done that. Dave recognizes the necessary steps for anyone to take regardless of their background to successfully get out off debt. He is very well known and everything that he sells people want to buy and read. He knows about the bells and whistles of the financial industry. The guy speaks from real practical work experience that very few people in his field have been able to match.

I’ve learned a lot from Dave Ramsey just by reading his book The Total Money Makeover. A great financial guru, he made his teachings sounds so simple and convincing that you want to start it immediately. He describes the journey to financial freedom in seven steps, and each step is really an eye opener. I may not be able to follow all of those, but at least I was able to set up the emergency fund which he really stressed as a must. So basically I am still at the first step but will continue to work on the next steps. Glad someone like Dave Ramsey is willing to share his knowledge and continue to inspire people to work on their financial freedom.

Saving money

I took a class a little bit ago. It was about 90 dollars here in Salt Lake City, UT and I enjoyed the program. They give you simple steps to follow on how to save money. It was a real eye opener when they showed how much money we can save by paying cash instead of using credit cards. I feel that I handle budgeting a lot better now and have saved money. It was definitely worth the money. The other cool thing about it is that you can pay the fee and bring your family to class. Also you can take the class again and listen to the seminars.

Read and Heed his words

Dave is the marketer I respect the most online. He is one of the biggest marketers in the world, but he still has time to help out the little guy. His techniques to build wealth and eliminate debt are the best on the net, and I always take time to read his advice and practice it in my own life. I can highly recommend anything Dave has put out, especially his software "Budget Like Dave".

Dave Ramsey?

Who is this guy Dave Ramsey? I think he is a guy who has learned from his mistakes. We can all learn from our mistakes and do the research he does without making him any richer. He filed Bankruptcy himself and I do not consider a person who has filed bankruptcy someone who should be telling me how to run my finances. Anyone can do it if they just sit down and make a budget and figure out what you need to do for your life. I do believe he could probably teach us all something, but if we think for ourselves I believe we could come up with the same solution.

This guy knows his stuff

I came across Dave Ramsey and all of his products through a family member. I went to his main site and first of all I could not believe everything that is on there. What caught my attention was the Total Money Makeover Site he has. I signed up for this subscription membership and I'm living his words every day. I like that he makes everything so simple. I also like that he gives you hope about getting all of your finances lined up and getting out of debt one baby step at a time.

What I really enjoy most of all are are the steps to building a nice financial nest egg for the future. I have applied many of his teachings to my own finances, and I actually have money saved up. I can honestly say that after applying what I have learned from just this site, that it keeps me going back to his main site to learn more. There is a lot of free information as well that you can apply every day.

If you want a promising future financially this is definitely the place to go. Start at this main website and you will see that Dave Ramsey offers so much. He is truly here to help and makes good on his words. One thing you will notice is that there are forums for you to talk with other members. I personally use the Community Chat Room on a regular basis and get a lot of helpful ideas there as well.

There is just so much information that Dave Ramsey provides that I could go on all day. I will leave it up to you to check it out. Mr. Dave Ramsey is a blessing in my financial life and he can do wonders for you too if you apply what he is telling you.

A refreshing Gem of financial truth

I have read several of Dave Ramsey's books and have long been a fan of his radio program. His website is user friendly and relevant for anyone. I have put His financial principals into practice and it has totally changed my outlook on financial success. I have used his products to teach my children about money and have found it to be effective.

I like that he is a proponent of living within your means and saving for the future. My children have been so excited when they see their savings grow and have also learned the importance of using what they have to help others.

I highly suggest Dave Ramsey to anyone because he knows how to bring people out of debt and keep them there. His website is a great tool to use to start out getting your life together.

Fantastic Common Sense Financial Advice

I've been an avid follower of Dave Ramsey for over 2 years. His "My Total Money Makeover" site is amazing. My husband and I were well over $25,000 in credit card debt. Dave Ramsey's ability to teach you to tackle small, manageable goals each day really made a difference. From paying down the credit card with the lowest balance first (to achieve a quick "win"), to setting aside cash in envelopes for different allotments (gas, groceries, etc. ), my husband and I were finally able to see how much money we were wasting! It truly has been an amazing experience. I recommend Dave Ramsey to anyone. If you're having financial issues, he's the man to start with!

Dave Ramsey is a lifesaver

I have been involved with Dave Ramsey and his whole program for several years and it has literally saved my financial life. In fact, he predicted this financial melt-down about 3 years ago and advised everyone to get out of the sub-prime mortgages ASAP. His program is not complicated. It is very easy to follow his "baby steps", as others here have noted. He does not believe in credit and teaches how to live without. His program and motivation make even the most overwhelming situations seem totally possible, even paying off your mortgage. I would highly recommend joining his website, buying his books and attending workshops or live events.

Dave Ramsey is very helpful

I would highly recommend Dave Ramsey. I have taken the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University through my church, and while it cost $100 for the entire course, which was difficult to come up with when you are broke, it was well worth every cent. At one time I had 20 credit cards. Now, after learning Dave's "cash" system I have none. The "peace" that you get from not being in debt is amazing!

Dave Ramsey

I do believe Dave Ramsey knows what he talking about. His teachings are similar to Suze Orman. They teach others to pay off debts and then you will have money to buy things or afford things that you want. I personally have followed their teachings and have paid off a small debt I had in a matter of weeks.

Dave Ramsey Financial University

I agree with Dave's principle of getting things paid off one at a time, while making payments on the others. I have been trying this myself, getting the highest percentage interest cards paid down by making larger payments on them first. I am starting to see a difference. I have also been trying not to use my credit cards at all... so far I am 6 weeks without using a credit card. It is hard, but using many of Dave Ramsey's ideas will help me reach my goal of being debt free in 18 months.

Dave Ramsey Rocks!

Dave Ramsey offers sound, practical financial advice. I signed up for his email newsletters and love getting reading them. I wish that more people would listen to his advice. If they did, our country might not be in the mess we are in now.

His materials cover good financial sense for people of all ages—from 3 (yes, 3) to 103!

Outstanding !

Dave Ramsey's teachings are practical, easy to understand, and not too mention humorous. His approach to taking baby steps to eliminate debt has helped my wife and I get on track to getting out of debt. We have been learning about his methods by watching one of his DVDs every Wednesday night at church. We have applied his methods and have eliminated some of our smaller debts and I am confident that we will eliminate out larger debts within a year's time.

Great advice this nation desperately needs

I have listened to Dave Ramsey's shows off and on for years, and I recently attended a Town Hall for Hope broadcast. Dave offers excellent advice on getting out of debt and being financially free.

Our economy is a based on debt and consumption instead of savings and production- not a good thing. I appreciate Mr. Ramsey's message that helps thousands of Americans take responsibility once again for their money.

I do disagree with Dave in one area; he seems to think the economy will recover- unfortunately that's not possible with what the government, the federal reserve, and others are doing.

I strongly recommend Dave's resources. Most of us could use some good advice, especially if were in money troubles. The borrower is a servant to the lender. Don't be a slave!

Dave Ramsey makes it clear

The church I attend started a three day seminar where a DVD of Dave Ramsey's expertise are shared. I was curious to know what all the hype was about since everyone seemed to be so intrigued and well aware of who he is. I was clueless to who he was, but very interested in what he had to say. He simply stated the importance of living life following God's advice on how to live within our means and get out of debt. Dave Ramsey shared very basic information in a very intelligent way. He used sense of humor to keep his audience engaged in what he had to say and used personal experiences to demonstrate the importance of following the basic rules. I really enjoy how he used the bible to follow up on what it has to say about living life the way we were instructed to do so and not submitting to the evil power of credit cards and financial debt. Overall, Dave Ramsey gets two thumbs up from me. I'm looking forward to finishing up the seminar. I'm sure he'll be inspiring.

His advice really helped me

I bought Dave Ramsey's book Financial Peace about 2 years ago. I spent a lot of time reading it and watching his television show. I only wish I would have read it sooner. One of my favorite parts in the book is his advice on communication with your spouse about money. He talks about making joint decisions about how to spend your income.

Dave Ramsey is one of those guys that is really easy to understand. He does not go on and on with fancy terms. He speaks to real people like me. I will never forget his advice on investing "Keep It Simple Stupid" do not over-complicate money.

I recommend that everyone buy this book because you will never look at you personal finances the same. His book and his television show have made a positive impact on my life.

Get ready to "act your wage" Get ready to "act your wage"

This is a mixed review and a slightly different perspective than you might hear elsewhere, but it comes with a great deal of respect and admiration for the man.

One of his slogans is 'act your wage'. That theme of living within your means is obviously a sound piece of advice, but after reviewing his material and hearing his show many times I've seldom (if ever) heard any encouragement to achieve your potential financially by ADDING INCOME. While it's very good advice to stop overspending (which many people do), it's not the motto that leads to success in business.

Since this is an Internet Marketing review site... where entrepreneurs seek advice on growing their businesses it's worth pointing these things out. If this were a shop-a-holics.com web site I would give Dave an "A+"... but not here.

I guess the point is I hear him spending about 95% of his message teaching people to plug the holes in their bathtub instead of teaching them to open up additional streams flowing in with the same vigor.

Specific example: Listen to his radio show sometime. The first questions Dave generally asks callers is, "how much money do you make now?". He then bases all of his advice on the answer given... without opening up the discussion to the possibilities of pursuing the financial success that is out there for the taking. This sort of success is more achievable in today's world than ever before in the history of man.

Being debt free is easy. Just eat rice and beans and don't spend any money on 'wants'. You can live happy on $35K per year. If that's you GO FOR IT! Being successful IN BUSINESS though requires discipline beyond simply 'not spending'.

Really love Dave Ramsey

I like Dave Ramsey and his show. After years of living in debt and following his plan, we are out of debt and living a better life.

I really like how he can help us teach our kids about debt and

teaching them about money. Teaching my daughter about money and saving is a great way to show her that life can be lived without debt. Start them as early as preschool ages, that is a great thing to do. The earlier you teach them about money the better they have a understanding.

I also like that he has home school curriculum that is very helpful and affordable.

With Dave's programs, books and DVD's everyone can learn about finance and living life without going into debt. His programs for churches are great too. I think if you as a parent want to teach your kids about money, Dave Ramsey is a big help.

Such a Great Advisor

I checked out Dave Ramsey's Financial University after a suggestion from an online friend. Dave Ramsey give great financial advice but it definitely takes patience and discipline to implement. Because of Mr. Ramsey I was able to pay off my credit card debt completely, and now my next goal is to begin chipping away at those student loans I've accumulated. My loans are my last debt that needs to be paid off and my friends should be debt free by mid 2010, as a result of Mr. Ramsey's Financial University. The only thing I have a slight problem with is that the advice seems more geared towards depriving yourself of certain luxuries to pay off debt instead of finding a way to pay off debt and be able to afford little luxuries. Kudos to Dave Ramsey for helping the world to sleep better at night and getting that debt out of our lives!

Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey

I have purchased the Financial Peace University material from Dave Ramsey about a year and a half ago. The information he teaches is fundamental finance principles but it takes discipline. I highly recommend his material to anyone want to get out of debt and do better in their personal finances.

I am in the process of re-reading his material to motivate me to eliminate some debt that I have.

Total Money Makeover

I have read and implemented the first step in The Total Money Makeover from Dave Ramsey.
