Gary Halbert Bio

Gary Halbert is one of the most respected marketing minds and was often hailed as one of the greatest copywriters ever. Gary was a prolific writer that talked about everything from marketing strategy, copywriting, direct marketing, and entrepreneurship on his website The Gary Halbert Letter. He had a signature writing style that pounded in real world wisdom and life lessons into every issue he wrote.

Gary Halbert Detailed Overview

Gary’s biggest success was the Coat of Arms letter which had mailed to over 600 million people and built a multimillion dollar business. Gary strongly emphasized the ability to write an order pulling salesletter the most important skillset a person could have. He explained having the skills to sell a product or service resulted in financial freedom.

Throughout many years, Gary taught many copywriting techniques. He taught the importance of creating a unique selling proposition, how different types of offers can create a dramatic change in profitability, and how using celebrities can increase the effectiveness of ads. In addition, he revolutionized direct marketing with his out of the box thinking. He developed his A/B mail wastebasket theory to. He also used grabbers in his salesletters to get people reading and eventually order his products.

But probably Gary’s biggest contribution to entrepreneurs and Internet marketers is that he openly shared his unconventional wisdom freely through his newsletter. He usually delivered them as a story and shared many marketing insights. He also challenged his readers to think about the bigger picture and taught life lessons which were priceless for business success.

Gary’s most well known product is his Boron Letters book which he wrote to his son while he was in jail. Some of his other products include How to Make Maximum Money in Minimum Time and his Root Canal Seminars. Most his seminars are not for sale and are highly sought after since they are very hard to come by.

Gary Halbert Reputation

Gary Halbert is a legendary marketer whose works should be studied and treasured. Anybody can visit his website at the Gary Halbert Letter and find a collection of immense value in his writings. After his demise in 2007, the site is now headed by John Carlton (one of Gary’s closest colleagues) and his son Bond Halbert. I strongly recommend you go to his website and start going through his newsletters. Many marketers believe that the newsletters are a must read for those that want to get an unfair advantage in marketing and entrepreneurism.

A living copywriting legend - Check out his Boron Letters if anything

It was a big event when Gary Halbert passed away, even more so for me because I literally wrote out by hand almost EVERY single Boron Letter he had in print (or that I could get a hold of). I believe in one of his letters, he talks about writing out by hand his own letters and a few other great advertisements he recommends if you want to hone your skills as a copywriter.

I thought that to be ironic because I was already doing what he recommended to do to think like a marketer and sell like one. I could read his letters one by one like a book and never get bored.

Pure Genius

I have yet to study anyone quite like the Prince of Print, Gary Halbert. This guy was a certifiable genius.

I always was greatly enlightened by the material on the Gary Halber Letter website. There really is nothing anywhere like what you can learn from that site. I was told that anyone can become a more intelligent marketer than 90% of the "professionals" simply by spending some time digging into the Gary Halbert Letter, and I believe that to be a true statement.

The interviews Halbert did with Michel Fortin (available on Fortin's website) are MIND-BLOWING! Those audio files elevated Mr. Halbert to a whole new level for me. You can FEEL his genius. He not only knew his stuff; it was WHO HE WAS. It's hard to explain, you just have to check it out.

Bar none, Gary Halbert is the best copywriter/marketer to learn from that I know of. His legacy lives on!

He is missed and can never be replaced

What I miss about the late great Gary Halbert was his unique in-your-face, almost borderline offensive style of persuasion. His letters are truly a treat to dissect and my favorite specimens to study. Look into his boron letters, the coat of arms and study as many of his materials as you can find. They are one of a kind pieces, and hopefully soon I will develop the eye to fully appreciate and see the tactics he was doing there.

He has partnered with the who's who of marketing like John Carlton, Jay Abraham and Dan Kennedy among others and certifiably one of the marketing genius of his generation. I truly do not believe anyone can fill the shoes he left in the industry. He was one of a kind.

Not too Shabby

This site was a not so bad site, though it was promoting something else, I still thought it was well written and very thorough. The website wasn't so bad looking either, I mean it should have some touch ups, but yes it is still fine. It is quite funny too. It didn't have some things that grabbed my attention. I think they should have more fun things on the site.

Gary Halbert is irreplaceable

I have followed Gary Halbert for so long it is ridiculous. He did this teleseminar with Michael Fortin and John Carleton, and when he came on the call his knowledge just oozed out the phone. He might as well have been the only one on.

Just google the coat of arms letter, or the Torva perfume ad, or even his personal full page ad in the LA Times.

He was a colorful character, who I had a dream that I was going to one day meet. A true reminder why you have to take advantage opportunities when they come. His Fusion seminar and Root Canal Seminars were both seminars I planned to attend and did not go for whatever reason.

His website is a PhD in marketing, soak it all in. Look for the Water Ad and Starving Crowd Letter (he was the first to coin that phrase), and be inspired.

The Original Master Copywriter

Incredible writer. Master salesperson.

A lot of it was natural instinct and talent, but he also had some great systems for writing sales copy (that you can find by reading back issues of the Gary Halbert Letter on his site, for free).

His take-no-prisoners, take-no-BS approach was also incredibly refreshing.
