Michael is a great author

I read his book "The Entrepreneur Within" which was so inspirational and revolutionary for my marketing. It taught me to embrace my business strategies and outlook to maximize my products credibility and reputation. This did wonders. I changed my websites to work with other well-known sites like Market Bay where I sold products and I had people coming from Market Bay to my site to buy their products at discounted prices as well as look at my products. In the long-run I sold more products while getting commission off the digital products I sold from their site. His secrets to marketing can really change your whole outlook on internet marketing and make you look for the important things first which will trigger everything else to fall into alignment. Great author and internet enthusiast.

One Great Book, One Weak Book

I’ve read two of Michael’s books: the E-Myth Revisited, and Awakening the Entrepreneur Within. The former was much better than the latter. The E-Myth Revisited had a very unique perspective on things, one that I hadn’t really considered before; the business, not the products being sold, is the REAL product. Michael appears to be an advocate of routine, form, and process. Once the business is perfected, it's systems can be documented and subsequently sold to another entrepreneur/investor/franchisee. Awakening the Entrepreneur Within was certainly different; more spiritual in nature, more abstract, less practical. Not my favorite book. This said, his success speaks for itself, and I’m interested in reading some of his earlier work.

I worked in his company

I titled my comments: "I worked in his company" because Michael did not have many "employees" but did have many "associates" working in his company. I'm not sure what his current structure is, but at the time this was quite innovative in that we were all "independent contractors" paid on performance. Although I wasn't there for long, the experience was pretty incredible and one that I carry with me to this day (and it's been over 20 years). Working in Michael's company is even better than reading his books or attending his seminars. Michael's company was a walking, talking example of what he preaches. I doubt that Michael would remember me since it's been so many years and he has probably had thousands of people working with him since, but I will always remember him and his leadership style which continues to inspire me. His ideas are simple, yet some of the hardest to implement, mainly because of the stubborn human spirit of wanting to, right or wrong, "do it my way". Michael's main focus hasn’t seemed to change; which is to create and implement clear and simple "Systems" that are "duplicatable" and "quantifiable" (that anyone can follow and that achieve results you can easily track, tweak and make changes to as the target market requires, in order to maximize profits). You would think everybody in any business would have that as their goal. The horrifying statistics of annual business failures prove that is not the case. Ultimately, I believe most entrepreneurs really DO want a better understanding of how to control the outcome of their business. However, most of us either don't know how to go about creating then implementing such an environment or are just too busy trying to figure it all out alone. Since my last acquaintance with Michael Gerber, I have had several of my own business successes as well as some failures. I have also met and promoted hundreds of business consultants and teachers from a platform of being a programs director for a large investment association. Some of the last words I remember from Michael are that I would one day regret leaving his company… I do not regret going out on my own. I do regret that I still don’t always follow what I learned from him. Almost every speaker quotes him and I still get a kick out of the admirable comments I receive when I mention that I was, albeit briefly, in any way associated with him. In conclusion: Even after all these years, and many other courses and mentors that have influenced my life, I still believe that there isn’t a business that should open it's doors without first consulting with the concepts that Michael Gerber so consistently teaches.

My Partner During My University Days

I had to have my daily dose of Michael Gerber during college. I was a business management student, when his E-Myth series was introduced to me by a professor friend who equally admired the guy. I found that reading through his text gave me knowledge beyond what was taught inside the class, so much that my management subject instructors wonder where I was getting all those business information from. Blame the Gerber guy, I always say. While almost all of my other classmates are reading novels (it was a trend in the university back then), I was busying myself with The E-Myth Revisited and The E-Myth Manager.

Gerber highly recommends franchising, which to my mind is a practical choice when starting out, given the statistics for success as compared to ordinary small-business start-ups. This is not to say that he's asking would-be business owners to buy a franchise license from another individual or company. What he asks his readers to look at is establishing a business that could be franchised, so that in the long run you will not have to tend to your business as much as when you started out because others are doing the work for you while succeeding in their own way, too.

Before I graduated, he came out with the E-Myth Mystery, which I managed to finish before I found my first job. I know he came out with Awakening the Entrepreneur last year, which I have been planning to buy ever since but haven't gotten around to doing. I know that like his other books, it will be packed full of information for small business owners or those that are starting small in the business world.

I have nothing but praises for this guy. I like it that he does not advice for small business owners to make their venture the center of their lives, which is exactly how I think that business should be handled. He also makes his every book light to read, not your typical boring business books. I'm not surprised his first book has been in the bestselling list for a long time now.
