Wordtracker Description

Wordtracker is the leading keyword research tool for internet marketing. There have been many tools and functionalities that have been added to WordTracker to cope with the changing needs of internet marketers. Though many competitors have emerged over the years, WordTracker can still provide the some of the best keywords for search engine optimization, affiliate marketing, and pay per click advertising.

Wordtracker Detailed Overview

Through the years, Wordtracker has garnered both positive and negative reviews from internet marketers. But it is undeniable that Wordtracker is considered as the “grandpa” of keyword research for a reason. Despite the fact that competing keyword research services have popped up to compete with this tool, WordTracker has managed to hold its own. Currently, it still holds the largest market share in the industry and the company is continually improving on the services it provides.

Convenience

Compared to its competitors, users have complained that Wordtracker isn’t appealing in appearance nor is it flexible. One thing it can boast of is its convenience. Unlike its newer counterparts that contain a lot of built-in, but sometimes unnecessary, tools for a marketer, Wordtracker contains separate tools that can be combined when you need added functionality.

This eliminates the need to figure out how to use a complicated web interface that waste your time even without you noticing it. The Full Search feature allows you to find and analyze several keywords at once. Related keywords can will be showed and polled so it isn’t necessary to do separate searches for each keyword phrase.

Support

Majority of keyword research websites today will provide the research tools, some tutorials, and some encouragement. All these are fine for an experienced keyword researcher. For a beginner though, figuring out how the tools work can take a significant amount of time. It is a good thing that WordTracker provides additional help in getting you started.

The Wordtracker Academy contains a lot of data about keyword research. Some of the things you can expect include articles specifying tips about search engine optimization and building a successful site in general. Other materials include case studies and a keyword guide. Several in-depth pages will walk you through the process to enable you to find the right phrases for your website.

Pricing

Wordtracker have weekly and monthly subscriptions that can be more expensive compared to its competitors. But its yearly subscription fee is actually the least expensive among all major players in the field. Below is an overview of what you can expect:

  • Wordtracker - $329.00/yr
  • Keyword Discovery - $599.40/yr
  • Wordze - $540.00/yr

Wordtracker is around 39 percent cheaper than other providers of comparable quality. Anyone can subscribe to the service and be reasonably satisfied. But the company actually caters to a certain type of market. It is targeted for people who need continues access to the research tool, a fairly high level of details, and have only a few projects at a time.

If you need a highly targeted pay-per-click campaign or very accurate traffic, other options like Keyword Density may suit your needs better. And if you only need the tool for a month or two, Wordze might be a better alternative because of its low monthly plan. In other words, Wordtracker is most suitable for marketers who need to use a decent keyword research tool continuously at an affordable price.

Solid tool, especially when used in combination with something else

I maybe will start by saying that I have let my WordTracker subscription expire. I do that every so often because it is pretty expensive (see rates higher on page).

But you know what? I keep coming back every so often when I want to think about new content, do SEO (white hat of course), think about e-book topics, and so on.

It's a pretty good product.

BTW, I don't feel like you get stats that are always reliable. I would not want to bet a website on just their statistics. But you do get good insights... and I've in past identified several great search terms with, as they describe it, very high KEI scores.

P. S. KEI is an acronym that refers to "Keyword Effectiveness Index"

Inadequate Metrics, Poor Follow-up Support

I recently terminated my Wordtracker Keywords membership after 4 months. After comparing the overall features and utility of WT with competing services, and receiving little useful follow-up from the company, I decided another tool would better serve my marketing interests (review of success to follow later).

In short, I learned that the Keyword Tool by itself is of little use in trying to rank well for terms. It's not enough to know the raw numbers of competitors, the "In Anchor and Title" (IAAT), and the Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI). These tell you nothing about the strength of the sites you're competing against. This became clear after I placed almost immediately for certain phrases but couldn't make a dent in others.

Wordtracker offers a higher-level service called Strategizer that may correct the Keyword Tool shortcomings. I say "may" because the company's mailings made little or no effort to promote Strategizer and what I read on the site didn't tell me much. The promotional page states that it offers better competitive analysis but there's no mention of the vital element of finding commercial potential.

In their emails, questions such as does Strategizer include full access to the Keyword tool or do I have to pay for TWO memberships, and what added features does Strategizer provide marketers, were left unanswered. Strange because it's certainly in their interest to upsell KWT subscribers. The most common contact from WT was invitations to their entry-level keywords webinar, which is a good introduction, but nobody would need to see it more than once or twice.

Just one subscriber's impression but to me, the Grandaddy looked a bit long in the tooth.

An Oldie but a Goodie

Using Wordtracker, I took one of my sites to #6 in Google using a somewhat competitive keyword.

Although Wordtracker is one one the older keyword research services, I still find it to be useful. They do manage to stay competitive, as they consistently make improvements in order to do so.

I experienced a bit of a learning curve at the beginning as Wordtracker isn’t all that intuitive. Once you learn how to use it however, it becomes rather simple.

Plenty of help is offered with keyword research, as Wordtracker’s academy provides this. There is also the Keyword Research E-Book. It's a thorough guide which takes you by the hand and teaches you how to use Wordtracker. The eBook is very helpful, and Wordracker may be an oldie, but still a goodie.

Not so great

I signed up for Word Tracker a couple months ago because of the money back guarantee just to try it out for 30 days. I wasn't impressed at all. I have found better keyword trackers for a lot less money. I went ahead and got my refund because this was not worth my money. Especially not worth 3 to 5 hundred dollars.

I don't recommend this one to anyone. It does work, it will help you out a lot, but it is not worth it, nor is it the best out there. Word Tracker is not for me.

Must for keyword research analysis

WordTracker gives results based on the keywords in PageTitle and Alt tag. This is very crucial as Search Engines of today, rank sites which have keywords in their back links.

The application has great UI, and when I mean great, it is simple and takes very little to learn and master. They also have some good video demonstration which helps you get started easily.

There is only one drawback however, is that the data collected is meta data and is through a few select search engines. Thus some reports say that the results displayed are only a fraction of the total search volume of Google. However, when used ( WordTracker ) in combination of Google Keyword and Market Samurai it's a real gold mine.

Not Bad, but Not Worth the Bucks

I subscribed to WordTracker for a 15 months (one year paid and three months free on a special offer). I found the service interesting and easy to use. I used it to find long-tail keywords to set up a new suite of blogs in a particular niche.

Having created numerous sites without any such service, I can't identify any actual benefit with regard to traffic on the sites set up using WordTracker. In fact, as far as I have been able to tell in the last three years, the WordTracker info incorrectly led me to develop a niche that has been much less popular than those that were simply set up based on my own interests and gut feelings.

All in all, the product was not worth the money spent. I suggest, instead, using free products available combined with your own research.

Cool program, worth a try

I didn’t want to get myself into spending 59USD per month on this program and took up the free trial offer for 7 days. I was rather surprised indeed by the ease of use that this program is designed. All you have to do is to enter a keyword that you wish to check on and a list of potential keywords will come out. Next, you choose the ones that are of your interest and choose the search engine that you wish to see results from. You will be able to see a comprehensive list of results for the keywords that you have selected. You can also opt to save it for future references and make another keyword search.

The process of searching good keywords is easy and simple. During the 7 day trial period, I managed to find some keywords that were of good potential to my website that I’ve just created. I implemented them and saw a slight increase in traffic to my website. The change was not much, but who minds extras?

If you sincerely want a product that can help you in search engine optimization, then probably you could give this baby a try for a month. Other wise, test it for a 7 day trial period and you might probably just end up getting it afterward.

The best way to brainstorm for keywords

Wordtracker is one of the best tools I have used for brainstorming keywords. You start by entering some keywords and then you have the option of using their built in thesaurus which suggests a whole bunch of related keywords. Wordtracker then returns big lists of keywords which you can then "add to your basket". Once you have a few 100 keywords or more you can then do competitive analysis on your keywords.

The competitive analysis shows you the total number of daily searches for each keyword phrase along with something called the KEI. The KEI is the Keyword Effectiveness Index and is a measure of how good the keyword is (good being lots of searches and low competition).

It is very quick and easy to build massive lists of keywords using this tool and the KEI is a neat way of helping you to choose the keywords.

The only downside to this tool is the accuracy of some of the data, in particular the number of searches per day. On many occasions I have found the numbers to be vastly underestimated or overestimated and they never seem to match up with the Google Adwords Keyword tool. I think the reason for this is that they get their data from a meta search engine and then calculate the results based on this. The meta search engine probably doesn't have quite enough searches to be totally accurate.

On the upside though, you will probably find some keywords that you never would have come across on your own!
