Constant Contact is a web-based email marketing service. Their service allows marketers to manage email lists and use autoresponders to automate email delivery as soon as new leads are added. Marketers can use the service to create many different email templates for newsletters, create promotions and easily manage a customer database from one easy-to-use interface.

There are many email marketing services to help Internet businesses use email marketing to connect with their audience. Constant Contact is one of the most popular services. Let’s see if they live up to their reputation and what they are offering.

Constant Contact has many of the features top email marketing services now offer. You get unlimited autoresponders, email personalization, unlimited lists, import lists and ability to customize fields in your web forms. The first thing that really stands out is the ability to search through custom fields to target the right customers. For example, if you only want to target buyers who are female, you can do a search for them. Obviously there are many more creative ways to use this function for more profitable email campaigns.

You also get the ability to manage unlimited lists. This allows you to segment your list into different groups so you can send the appropriate emails. Studies have proven that by segmenting your list and offering products or services catering to their interests, there is a dramatic increase in sales. You also won’t burn out your whole list with repeated emails only certain people may be interested in.

In my opinion, Constant Contact has one of the best interfaces of the many email marketing services I’ve used. It is very cleanly laid out and easy to use. When you first login, you’re introduced to a step-by-step process to create an email. I really appreciate this, as it took the guesswork out of the whole process. The different functions such as emails, surveys, contacts and settings are switched through multiple tabs. This makes everything so simple and easy to use.

I was impressed with Constant Contact’s vast collection of templates. There are over 400 templates and an email editor to help you design your own professional newsletter. I think that Constant Contact provides you with templates better than any other service as they have a wide variety ranging from newsletters, promos, e-cards and event templates. This makes the task of running a newsletter or sending out promotions a breeze. And like many other services, it’s easy to manage your list – they have a staff that manages bounce rates and unsubscribe requests are handled automatically through a link.

Many email marketing services have limited analytic features but Constant Contact allows you to. You’ll get a report on your bounces (also why they bounced), unsubscriptions, clickthrough rates, open rates, click tracking, even how many times your mail has been forwarded. You also can compare the data between your campaigns. This is really a great feature that helps you improve your email campaigns and figure out what works.

Other additional features are the ability to edit the “from” email address and name, getting feedback when people unsubscribe, using HTML email (with images, links, order buttons), unlimited sequential autoresponders, unsubscribe preferences (allows users to unsubscribe to specific lists), and a spam filter tool built in so you reach the inbox of your subscribers.

Constant Contact maintains good relations with major ISPs to help your emails reach your subscribers. They also keep up on the latest email regulations. But the question is: will your emails go through? Third party tests have shown that they get 93-96% delivery rates. This is a pretty solid percentage.

Customer support is the company’s strength. They offer a knowledgebase, video tutorials, articles, webinars, email contact, toll free phone number, live chat and you can pay trained professionals to set up your campaigns and build your email campaigns. They are really setting the standard in support as their staff is well-trained and knowledgeable.

The biggest drawback of this service is the cost. You are charged $30 a month for up to 2500 subscribers, $50 a month for 2501-5000, and $75 a month for 5001-10000 subscribers. This is incredibly expensive when you compare this to other email marketing services. If you look around, you can get similar features for a cheaper price. Bigger businesses will probably want to use their service for the extra features, analytics and templates.

Constant Contact Reputation

To sum up, Constant Contact is a solid service. The highlights of their service are the templates, email editor, comprehensive training and great customer service. Their interface is probably the easiest to use out of the other ones out there, and it really makes the whole process painless. You’ll actually enjoy working with this interface and coming up with promotions, email designs and more.

Other marketers and Internet businesses have given positive feedback about Constant Contact. The only drawback to me is the pricing. I think if they lowered their price by at least 25%, it would be an incredible value. There are other services with similar delivery rates, features and customer support. But all in all, it’s one of the top 5 email marketing services I have used and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

About Survey Service of Constant Contact

I have bought their survey service for my monthly surveys and giveaways.

I haven't had the time to browse through their e-mail and other services yet, so what I am going to say refers mostly to what I've been using for a while.

In choosing the provider of any kind of IM services, what I am first looking for is simplicity of use for visitors. And shortest possible learning curve for me.

Truth is, we as internet marketers whether inexperienced or seasoned, have a tremendous, sometimes overwhelming variety of stuff to learn. And this is a never-ending process, new things coming out daily and you have to keep up. That's why I am looking for something that will take me where I want to be fast!

It is possible that larger companies, having high tech people specialized for this or that may find some other solutions that better suit their needs, but for individual marketers who have to do everything alone, this is an excellent service.

Also, I like the way you can edit your surveys and totally adapt the look and feel. My newest survey with giveaway really looks like a part of my site now.

A little expensive, illogical pricing, but good features

My company used CC for about six months. The person using it and the person paying the bills were two different people, so we didn't notice a big problem for a while: They charge you for the total number of people in your lists each month whether you email those people or not.

We have a list of about 30,000 that we email weekly. (All opt-in, no spam. )

We have another list of about 8,000 that we email quarterly.

But we were paying monthly for 38,000 people to be stored.

Storage is cheap. They should charge only for the sending. Doing it their way is illogical to me.

We finally dumped them and created our own home-brew system after trying a few others that we were also dissatisfied with for various reasons. Unfortunately not every small company has the programming resources to make that a viable option.

What they do, they do well. Just watch your bills and don't leave lists on their servers that aren't about to be sent to.

I Love This Website

I have just started an email newsletter and I am using the free trial at Constant Contact for now. Soon, I'll have to pay for it, but I am willing to do so because I definitely see the great value of this site. I love the fact that the newsletter designs are so easy to use and can make your newsletter look totally professional, even if you have never written a newsletter before.

The reports on who actually opens your email and where the person is clicking in the email (whether the person is clicking on your links or not) are easy to read and are extremely valuable when figuring out whether your internet marketing campaign is working or not. The site ONLY lets you send emails to people who have opted to receive your emails and therefore you have far less chance of being reported for spam or running into legal problems.

So far, I am delighted with the service and I will definitely be using Constant Contact for all my newsletters in the future. The price seems reasonable for the level of reporting you receive and you can send out as many emails as you want to your contacts. There is even a sliding scale of payments, so you only pay more when you have a LOT of contacts. This is perfect for the small business provider who is just starting out. You can even trial the product for 60 days for free and I bet you will you see the value in the email service and upgrade as I will do soon.

You can also survey your customers, but I haven't used this service yet. It certainly looks promising though and I am sure I will use it in the near future.

Constant Contact: A Great Up Sell

I have used Constant Contact for four years now and have been totally satisfied. As a designer I have used it as an extra product to sell to my clients to help promote their businesses. The detailed reports generated from email campaigns are a value I see most appreciated. I think it is also great that Constant Contact as a company offers live help given locally; so not only can you familiarize yourself with the software online, but you can also attend a Constant Contact meeting and Q&A a real person. I have seen more than once price as an issue with CC. Sometimes after making my sells pitch on CC, a client will want something less pricey. But other than that it is a great product to try out- you have nothing to loose by trying their trial period.

I loved Constant Contact

I never had a problem in my 8 months of using Constant Contact. I found it very easy to use, straight forward, and really a benefit to my slumber parties business. I used it to recruit, as well as for sales. I kept everyone current with any promotions and sales I was offering.

I loved using them, and whenever I need these types of services again, I will be going direct to constant contact!

More room for improvement

I had my first try with constant contact email marketing service while I was trying out Solve360's project management platform. It's one of the add ons available and it integrates contact management between the two. It allows you to "push" any contact in your Solve360 list to your Constant Contact account which is a very convenient way for me to do. No more hassle of downloading csv files.

When it comes to the service, in general, I find constant contact's service as good choice. The price is competitive and can be easily learned with their plain instructions on how to create mailing form, scheduling, and surveys. They also provide an image hosting, but may not be too practical since you can have Photobucket or Flicker for this purpose.

A few things that which I think can be improved or enhanced is the option of paying for emails that you send only, which I find very convenient specially for a blogger who is still starting up in his marketing campaign. They might also consider creating a more attractive and eye catching templates for forms and not just settle for the buttons which I find a little outrageous.

This Really Is A Great Service!

I signed up for the 60 day trial a couple of years ago and was very impressed! Fortunately for me, this was the first autoresponder service I came across! With that being said, I've learned a lot during the trial period. I had just started out with online marketing and didn't know where to begin, and the newsletters sent out by Constant Contact were very informative, gave step by step instructions on what I needed to do to get it going. Seems it was right on time! They also respond very well to email questions. That was a plus considering I was just starting out and felt very alone in my online venture! The response time was no later than a day, but many of your questions are already answered in their forum, though of course I like the personal touch... lol!

The feature where I could set up multiple templates for the same email is great. As to finding out what campaign works best, you can keep all the templates just in case you want to use one for another product or service while keeping the template for that particular product originally intended that actually worked well! There are so many things to mention, but in all, it was a great service! With me just starting out, I just couldn't afford to keep it, but it was a great educational tool, cause now I know and can now use what I've learned with the free services!
