Earthlink is a dial-up, DSL and satellite internet service founded by businessman Sky Dayton. This company has been providing internet service for over 15 years, keeping up with the various technological changes that the medium has gone through. Today it still provides dial-up service, but also high-speed DSL and phone service as well.
There are very few people who use the internet that haven’t heard of Earthlink. This company has been providing internet service for a number of years. It started back when only dial-up internet was available, and kept pace with technology, eventually offering high-speed DSL and satellite internet service as well as phone service.
Earthlink still provides dial-up service, which is good news for those who live in areas where cable internet or even DSL is still not available, and who don’t want to pay the higher price for satellite internet. Their dial-up service package includes an accelerator for faster web surfing, virus and spyware protection, and your own email address through the service.
The Earthlink DSL service is not available in all areas. Since the company has started providing DSL however, their service areas have expanded every year. The DSL service provides high-speed internet and phone, and comes in different packages, which are priced depending on internet connection speed and whether or not you want limited or unlimited phone minutes each month. A basic internet and phone DSL package costs $54.95 per month, and their highest internet speed and unlimited phone service, which is their premium package, costs $69.95 per month.
The Earthlink satellite internet service is available anywhere in the United States, and is of course, much faster than dial-up and comparable to the fastest DSL service. The price for satellite service is $59.99 per month and up, depending on the package that you choose.
Having been in business for so long, Earthlink has understandably gotten its share of mixed feedback. Overall, customers have been pleased with the service that this company provides. Many of the complaints that have been heard over the years have pertained to the sometimes unstable nature of dial-up internet, and to a lesser degree, DSL internet. This can’t always be helped, but reports are that the company’s customer service is responsive to any concerns.

Earthlink is a great backup I have a wireless service which I am very pleased with but sometimes it goes out or a piece of my equipment quits working. This happened to me very recently and I had to get online because of all the business I do online. I called a few other dial-up services and was disappointed by them all. Then I called Earthlink. The people I talked to were really nice and helpful, they even gave me a number to contact their 24/7 tech line. I was online in about an hour. It was also inexpensive. I wasn't looking for speed, all I wanted was to be able to get online again. They have an accelerator which really works. They offered me a great price and I am continuing to use their service for backup. I'm not sure if I would use it for my primary internet service provider, but I am extremely pleased using Earthlink for backup when my primary internet service is down. |

Past Earthlink Experience I used to use EarthLink as my DSL provider, but I experienced many instances where I had no service or limited service. Customer support, however, was available to help whenever I had problems, but often times it seemed like my specific area where I lived was having an overall problem. Connectivity specifically in the Eastern Pennsylvania area was limited when I subscribed to the service. After a few months with this problem, I changed my provider to Verizon. I have had little to no problems with my current service. I rate Earthling with a C because of how much customer service tried to help me, but the lack of connectivity was the overall downfall.

Crashes too much EarthLink is the worst ISP I have ever had, and I have had many ISPs including Verizon, Comcast and ATT. I currently have Earthlink and that is due to the fact that there are not other ISPs available in my area, which is a real pain. EarthLink goes down a lot and I can’t use the internet for like an hour when it does. Also their DSL, which I have, is very slow, it takes about 12 hours just to download a movie. Overall if you have another ISP available in your area choose them over EarthLink and consider yourself lucky.

Cheap but A Lot Of Down Time I had earthlink for less than a month because I did not like the service. Only reason why I had it in the first place was because it was much cheaper than all of the other Internet providers. There were a lot of downtimes, like I would just be doing some keyword research and the internet would just crush. Once it crushed I had to wait 5-10 minutes for it to go back up and most times I had to restart my computer as well. All in all EarthLink is good for the price, but if you want good service you should just pay more and go with another internet provider.

Current DSL Provider I currently have EarthLink as my internet provider and I am very happy with the service that they offer. I have the DSL and phone package which I pay $59 a month for. I have many features including unlimited national calling in the US and caller ID. I also have high speed DSL which is way better than the Dial Up internet service I used to have. I couldn’t talk on the phone if I was connected to the internet when I had Earthlinks Dial Up, because the internet had to occupy the phone in order to connect. I just recently switched to their DSL and I am much happier, will probably be with them for a while.

The unlimited plan I had the Earthlink DSL service for over a year before I switched over to Verizon. I paid $69 a month for my DSL service, I had one of their unlimited plans with a speed of 8.0Mbps but it was around 4.0Mbps most of the time. The package I had also came with home service and I had unlimited calling anywhere in the US which was good because I have family all over the states. I also had caller ID along with all of the home features that they have available. Their service was great but I went to Verizon because I wanted a package that included cable service as well and they do not offer that type of package.

Support is not what it used to be I've used Earthlink as my ISP for nearly a decade. They're fine when things are working, but their support isn't as good as it used to be. A few months ago I had a problem with my DSL service randomly disconnecting all the time. I called Earthlink repeatedly to try and get the problem resolved, and got a call center in India. The support people for the most part were extremely unknowledgeable about any problem outside the two or three on their list, and they asked the exact same questions every time. No, for the twentieth time, I do not have satellite TV. I did not have satellite TV a month ago when the problems started, either. I eventually solved the problem by going through the phone company to get the physical connection checked in person, something the Earthlink support people were adamant was unnecessary. The problem turned out to be that squirrels had chewed through the wires. The service guy solved the problem within minutes. Earthlink tech support used to have actual technicians who knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, those days seem to be gone. |

Grandparents have Earthlink My grandparents had EarthLink a few years ago and every time they had a problem with it, I would have to go over to their house to help them out because I'm the technologically inclined in our family. I always had problems with support and never really liked the internet speeds themselves. The software wasn't very up-to-date and of course the service being dialup, it was slow. |

I remember back when I used Earthlink when I was in entry to high school and it was the next big thing to AOL that hit the internet. I know that they have pretty good servers and their downtime (at the time) was hardly never, at least I never noticed if they were down or not. My family and I used Earthlink primarily for the internet and it was reliable for us, seeing that it was a great service to connecting to the worldwide web. Earthlink still has it's reputation and name in society as a great DSL provider and will continue to be. I would recommend this service to a friend. |

Very Cheap DSL & Phone Service I used to have Earthlink before I moved to where I live now; I don’t use their service anymore because it is not available in my area. When I had it I paid $59 for DSL and their phone service. I had the slowest DSL package because I could not afford the faster ones, but it was still pretty fast. I could always change my IP by just restarting my router which was a big plus because I needed different IPs to post on CL. I had unlimited long distance calling in the US, I always talked to my sister who lives in another state without any problems. I also had caller ID, and 3 way calling among many other features.

Earthlink is not bad for the price EarthLink is not a bad internet provider for the price. The speed was okay, and customer service was outstanding. You get a lot of bang for your buck going with this provider. I needed more, internet, phone, and cable on one bill so I ended up going with another provider. EarthLink was not bad though. Download speed was a little slow, but surfing speed was acceptable.

Best dial up service available When I first got internet service, I went with EarthLink’s dial up service and it was great. The price was good however I had to install a second landline to be able to still receive calls. The security offered by EarthLink isn’t the best out there but definitely helped protect my computer and the speed was awesome. When I switched to cable internet, I stopped using EarthLink (couldn’t afford the service and the second landline) however I recommend it to anyone who is currently using dial up. It runs efficiently and has excellent customer support. The whole EarthLink system deserves an A+. |

It's OK nothing special I've used Earthlink in the past and I can't say that it was outstandingly superior service, the DSL worked fairly well and there weren't excessive problems. Customer service wasn't bad which was nice, they were very pleasant. I ended up quitting because I found a different service that saved me money with a plan where I could combine all my communication needs into one plan for a cheaper price.

Earthlink is a great choice for dial up Earthlink is one of the best dial up companies out there. I used it for a year until high speed internet was available in my area. It offers a fair price and is the best dial up I could find. If there are no high speed internet providers in your area, I'd definitely recommend them.

A good service for a good price I used Earthlink's dial-up connection for a couple years before switching to a faster alternative, but I have to say, all things considered, Earthlink is a good choice when it comes to Dial-Up. I've tried 2 other Dial-up services but Earthlink was the best deal, and it had the fastest connection speed I've seen (for a dial-up connection). I did have a couple mishaps in the beginning (of my own accord, not of Earthlink's) but their customer support is professional and very helpful. Although personally I would stick to a DSL/Cable connection because of the frustration of the phone lines being held up and the comparison in speed, if you're looking for a trustworthy dial-up connection Earthlink is your best bet.

It's not bad, not spectacular either I used the free version of Earthlink about a eighteen months ago. They were offering a free 6 month trial from a disc that I received in the mail. It reminded me of the 6 month trial discs that AOL offers. We were in the midst of deciding who we should use as our Internet provider, as we were preparing to lower our expenses. So the 6 month Free trial was right up our alley. They have good customer service that were very professional and polite, when I called them about cancelling the Free trial after using it for a 5 month period. I cancelled it because although it provided help for me to get online, the speed wasn't that of DSL or high-speed cable. Their customer service didn't try to convince me to stay longer with them or anything, they simply cancelled the account, and sent me the cancellation email to confirm it was cancelled. That's professionalism for you. If you are just in need of connecting to the Internet and not looking for speed, then I would recommend their service to you as it is decent. Otherwise if you're looking for speed, then you might want to keep searching.

Earthlink Pretty Good for Dial up Service I used Earthlink as my internet provider a few years back before I had DSL. In my opinion it is one of the best dial up options you can have. I had no difficulty with them whatsoever. I think they are much better than AOL and probably better than Netzero as well. I never had any difficulty with connection, and their customer service is easy to contact and to converse with if you have any technical problems. I would recommend Earthlink if you need a dial up option for your home or business. I do not think you will have any problems with their service and will be able to use them for some time to come. They do provide good service at an affordable price.

Earthlink is a good service provider I did sign up for internet dial up service with this Internet Service Provider many years ago. I liked their great customer service. I also liked their dial up service which was the best one out there at the time in my opinion. They also provided a lot of features that I didn't normally see with other Internet Service Providers at the time like high speed and broadband service. The only reason I didn't stick as a customer and switched to AOL dial up internet service was the fact that I found that the AOL service was better, more reliable and cheaper than EarthLink.

Definitely your best option for dial-up When at school, I found that I had pretty limited options when it came to internet. Earthlink provided the perfect solution then, and I believe it still would now. The service they provide is top quality, and they do everything that they say. The customer service is incredibly friendly, and they really deliver on everything that they promise. I found them really easy to deal with, and they really helped me out when I needed it. I would totally recommend this to anyone looking for a dial-up service, and even though it is a bit outdated these days, it's still as reliable as ever. |

I love Earthlink service I used Earthlink 4 years ago while I was in college. The only reason I am not using now is because my current housemate would like to support local telecom company. Earthlink is very stable and the speed is fast, more importantly, it is relatively cheap compare to other providers, I was a college student 4 years ago, the price was very affordable to me at that time. Their customer service is also among the best, they are not only polite but show willingness to help you if you run into some technical troubles. This is a service I highly recommend if you have no obligation to use other service provider. By the way, their speed is really fast, I mean they don't limit your traffic as far as my experience count, so if you like to download or upload a lot of things, this is the one you should go with. |

Best dial up service Earthlink was my ISP before I switched to a company which offered DSL. Their service was superb and I never one had an issue with them. I made the switch to a company who offered DSL almost immediately when it became available. I have recently found out that Earthlink is now offering DSL in some areas. I am hoping that Earthlink will be offering DSL in my location so that I may make the switch back to their service. Overall, I would say that Earthlink is among one of the best internet service providers which I have had the pleasure of doing business with. Their customer service is also great, whenever I needed service they responded immediately and the issue was solved as soon as it happened. I recommend EarthLink for people interested in their service. |

Great service I used Earth Link about five years ago before my town got high speed internet. I used their dial up service for about a year. At the time that was the fourth dial up service I had tried and I still think it's the best. They had great support and for dial up it was pretty fast. They had great features like an accelerator that made the internet go faster which came in handy when sitting around waiting five minutes for a web page to load. I have never used their high speed internet service so I don't know how well that works, but if it works as good as their dial up, then I could only imagine it must work really well. Overall they are a great company with well trained customer service and high speed internet even with dial up.

Pretty awesome dial up! About 3 years ago in college I didn't have many internet options once moving into my own apartment. I decided to initially go with a company, which I will not name, and their customer service was horrible - so I was on the look out for a reliable company with good customer service!I had heard a lot of good things about Earth Link, so I decided to give them a try. I called them one day and they had me hooked up the next. Their customer service is awesome. And I was extremely impressed with their fast dial up internet service! This was 3 years ago, but I have a friend that is still using earth link as her internet service provider and she loves it! If I didn't have to move I definitely would have stuck with Earth Link. Their customer service is great - you simply call them and get the answers you need. I never once had problems with not having internet or slow internet (even considering it was dial up!) If I ever need to change ISP's again and Earth Link is an option, I'll definitely go with them! Highly recommend going with Earth Link - you won't be disappointed! |
