GetResponse Description

GetResponse is a web-based email marketing service. Their service allows marketers to set up scheduled email messages (called sequential autoresponders) and automate the follow-up process when new leads are added. Marketers can use HTML templates, deliver newsletters, and easily manage customers in one easy-to-use interface. GetResponse has been one of the more popular autoresponder services since launched by Simon Grabowski in 1998.

GetResponse Detailed Overview

Email marketing is one of the best ways to stay in touch with customers, send promotional offers, and build relationships with prospects. Over the last few years, there have been many email management solutions to help marketers take advantage of email. GetResponse is one of the first autoresponder and email management services and has been around for many years. Today I'm going to talk about the features and uses of their service.

To start off, GetResponse has many advanced personalization features such as name, city, sex, birthday, etc. and they allow you as many personalized fields in your message. Although this is an industry standard, I have to stress its importance because studies have found that personalization increased the results of email marketing campaigns. Tests have also shown that the more personalization elements that are used, the higher the response rates.

With GetResponse, you get unlimited autoresponders (for as long as you want), unlimited broadcasts, and you can manage unlimited lists. The best part of this is that you can segment your list to promote the right products and services. By segmenting, you can target subscribers who are interested in certain products or services for the best results and not over-exhaust your whole list with promotions they have no interest in.

There's more - publishing a newsletter is a breeze with 150 high quality templates to choose from. The service also has staff to look at bounce rates and removes undeliverable email addresses. Unsubscribe requests are handled automatically and there is a spam tool in place to help you avoid words/phrases that send your email straight to the bulk folder.

One of GetResponse's finest points is their tracking features. You can track everything from email delivery rates, email open rates, clicks, click thru rates, opt-in rates, and more. This will allow you to test many variables to come up with an email marketing campaign that results in the best response rates and profits. For example you can split your list into different parts and test different subject lines to get the best open rates.

There are some features that is just icing on the cake. One of them is that you can automatically move subscribers to a new autoresponder sequence. This can be useful if a prospect that's been receiving sales message has just bought your product. It wouldn't make sense to keep sending sales messages to a customer so GetResponse added this feature to move leads into different lists when necessary.

Another feature allows you to sync up your blog with your email list so whenever you make a new blog post, there will automatically be an email sent out to your list notifying them of the update. You can also deliver your email by RSS feed which is important because many people now choose to use RSS reading tools and software to get their information. You can also customize opt-in pages, removal pages, confirmation pages, the "from" email address, and thank you pages.

Let's move on to deliverability issues. GetResponse has relationships with major ISPs and email service providers so their emails are highly deliverable but their major competitor Aweber, wins on delivery rates. Third party tests have shown that Aweber resulted in a 96-98% delivery whereas GetResponse resulted in 93-96% delivery rates. This will not be a significant difference to most people but may make a difference if you are managing tens of thousands of subscribers. GetResponse, however, wins on price and is now more affordable since Aweber has changed their pricing structure.

Next is the issue of customer service. GetResponse has been around for many years but their customer service wasn't always the best in the industry. But things have turned for the better. Now the company offers 5 different ways to get support - video training, email, live chat, forum, and a toll-free phone number. They've really taken steps to provide great customer service. I found that their staff is well trained and that it didn't take long to get a customer rep on the phone and help me with tech issues.

The best part of GetResponse's service is the price it's only $17.95 per month or $145.50 for the year. They allow 10,000 subscribers and $4.50 extra for every additional 5,000. Many email marketing services now charge as much as $50-$150 per month to manage 10,000 subscribers which is a little bit ridiculous since email marketing results have gone down over the last few years (because of SPAM).

GetResponse Reputation

In conclusion, GetResponse is a great email marketing service. Although their major competitors have slightly higher delivery rates, GetResponse has a better tracking tool and is much more affordable. They also have all the features their competitors have and are constantly adding new ones.

GetResponse has received positive feedback from customers and they have started to receiving more praise in the industry since improving their customer service department. The company's CEO Simon Grabowski is active in popular marketing forums and addresses many problems customers face. I highly recommend their service and commend the company for making huge improvements over the last 2 years. For people with small and medium sized lists, GetResponse is the most affordable, feature-rich email marketing/autoresponder service out there.

Has helped for my company business twitter

I use GetResponse to Auto respond to all of my tweets from twitter. I work for a pretty big company and me and a few other people run the twitter and other social media accounts for our company, which we really need to get more into with the technology now, whenever I tweet about a new product and people respond to me it is pretty hard for me to manually respond to each and every one but this auto responder automatically emails my messages at the set time that I have it at. Recommend!

Get Response is user friendly

As an online rookie I had a hard time using Get Response at first. But recently they made changes to the Web form creator which I really love. There are so many choices and it is easy to customize once you realize that the samples are actually what you edit. I have enjoyed the tutorial trainings they provide on the site as well. There is a fee to use this service but with so many features it is worth it.

They must have had a big overhaul

Reading the comments here, I was confused by the low grades this e-mailing service provider has. And then I saw that the last comment was from begin 2012. It seems that they have gone through some fundamental changes. Because what I see so far is nothing but great!

- intuitive interface

- superb education (simple and packed with actionable advice)

- great tools

- affordability

What most of us need is shortest possible learning curve, low cost and superb tools. And that's exactly what they provide.

In these 12+ months of me being intensely in IM, I have seen comparable level of overdelivering only at one place - at Perry Marshall site.

And you don't really need to pay anything to see it for yourself, there's a free 30 day test ride.

Terms of Service SCAM

A year ago I had a need for an autoresponder service so I paid a for a year advance from getresponse. I used perhaps 6-8 months of the service before my business changed and I didn't require the autoresponder from that point on, so I decided to just let it expire.

A few days ago, after reviewing my bank statement, I found that getresponse had charged my debit card for another year.

I called the "customer service" number to let them know that I hadn't been using their service for many months and did not want to renew for another year, only to find that they have no US based customer service department that could handle refunds, it's a Sweedish company. So, I filed a claim through my bank to have them dispute the charge.

My bank was able to get through to someone, apparently from Sweeden, who stated that the terms of service is that customers automatically agree to by requesting their service, states that they can auto bill the account until it is canceled, and that after a payment is made, even if you cancel it right away afterward and have no intention of using the service, they will issue no refunds.

Now, I have been through many vendors that take great pains to make sure that the customer knows about their auto billing and makes SURE the customer agrees and is happy with that method of payment. However, when a company like this one, hides the details of these billing practices in fine print, then refuses to grant a refund for NO SERVICE RENDERED, this is extremely poor business practice.

Stay away from these guys, they WILL rip you off if they can. My advice, stick with US based companies for services that actually want to retain a satisfied customer base and not just leech what they can before they go under.

Twitter Followers

I use GetResponse to Auto respond to all of my leads from twitter. I have 15 thousand followers on twitter and whenever I tweet about a new product I add my email to it. Of course it is a little hard keeping track and it would be nearly impossible to manually respond so I just use GetResponse. This auto responder automatically emails my leads at the set time that I have it at. Right now it is emailing my leads 30 minutes after they send an email which makes it look very legit. I usually generate $100-$150 a week from my twitter followers and that is all because of GetResponse.

One of the best

I have the 10k + emails monthly package from getresponse and I think that it is well worth it. Before I used to send out my newsletters with an auto response which was a hassle. The auto responder would send the emails one by one and not all of them together so it took a very long time as well. Also with the auto responder that I was using I had to add all the emails in my newsletter one by one to the auto responder which literally took hours. I got tired of going through all of this just to send out a newsletter so I decided to purchase getresponse and now it is a piece of cake emailing my newsletter. I don’t have to upload emails one by one because getresponse has a bulk uploader where I just import all of my emails from a file. Also it emails the list all together at once so I don’t have to wait for that either. Overall getresponse is definitely one of the best mailing services I have ever used.

The Iphone App

I have been using GetResponse for two months now and my favorite part about it is the Iphone App. I get to check my responses and everything from the GetResponse Iphone App any time of the day and I really like this feature. I have two sets of responses on GetResponse and they are both two very different responses that I customized the with GetResponse features. The first response on each set of responses is a video response which my newsletter subscribers really like. When I wasn’t using a video response 3% of my newsletters were converting now that I am using the video response 7% of my newsletters convert.

The Truth Hurts

Good but confusing

I tried this after my 30 day trial was up with Aweber. I had a lot of trouble configuring the system at Aweber so I decided to try the next best thing which everyone says is GetResponse. I found GetResponse to be a bit simpler to use and also a bit cheaper per month.

The only issues I have with GetResponse is that most of my subscribers have told me that my messages are listed as spam, this poses quite an issue as people are not as easy to trust my website.

If you are looking for an easy to use auto responder to get your list to build, then GetResponse is a good choice. But Aweber is a bit more effective.

Inboxes Everything

I used the GetResponse service for the month of July of this year, I got the 10k to 25k email package and I had no sending limit. All of the responses inboxed Yahoo, AOL, Gmail and every other mail service. I tested it many times and it never went to spam, so I never missed any potential sales. They gave me an email body guide and it helped a lot when I was creating my marketing campaign. GetResponse offers 24/7 support and they help you create the email body if you need to. I used their support frequently and they were always very fast. Very Recommended!

Good Price, Complicated Interface

I used GetResponse for over a year. I liked the service and found it useful for my business. The price was better than the competitor's I looked at like aWeber and ConstantContact.

My major complaint is that the interface is not very intuitive. I'm not a computer klutz. I've been using computers heavily since 1985, programming since 1987, and coding sites since 1994. Still sometimes the interface had me baffled. I used the service much less than I could have, just because I knew I'd have to back up and work through the interface again.

Hopefully GetResponse has upgraded their service in the last couple of years so that it will be more accessible to the end users.

Too Complicated for Me

I paid for GetResponse 2 years in a row and never really received any real results from it. I don't like the double opt-in required for clients that are already on my approved email list. I end up having to send a regular email offer which is double work and a time waster. Plus the system is just too complicated for me... there are too many steps involved to set-up a simple campaign. I just called about their new multi-media package to add audio/video. This cost $10 additional per mo/$120 yr. This new feature is something that I really wanted to use, but when you add the yearly discount of $146.47 + $120 for multi-media, totals $266.47. So I will be canceling this year, and trying something more user friendly that costs less. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share.

Worth a look :D

I signed up to this about 2 years ago as it offered a free version which offered almost the same features as their competitors who were charging more than I could afford. Now the service has come on leaps and bounds. You can sign up for a free trial period, but unfortunately now there is no completely free option. Having said that, it is still one of the cheapest sites offering this e-mail marketing service and one can't complain about the costs when you get such a good service and value for money. This is definitely recommended.

Change in Pricing But Still Highly Recommended

Recently there were changes at GetResponse and there are more features for using multimedia in the messages, which I think can become very useful in time, although I didn't try it yet. Also the pricing changed. For a list of less than 11 there is a free option, but there are different rates according to the list's size. It starts at $18 for a list up to 500 subscribers and get to $145 per month for a list of 10,001-25,000 so I think that the price is now even with other services (at least for large lists). I didn't use other mail services, but I found this service to be very satisfying (that's maybe why I didn't go somewhere else).

Good Service, But...

GetResponse has a great service. I used it back in '04 when it offered a free option. But as I was looking to use autoresponders again, I noticed that this service no longer has the free option. So I stick to the free stuff that has most of the same features, just has their little advertisement at the bottom. The service is great though, I just choose to use the free stuff.

It's my choice

I did a lot of comparing before deciding on GetResponse. As you might imagine it came down to GetResponse or AWeber. There is no real difference in what is offered from either company but there is a HUGE difference in price. I see no reason to pay the inflated prices of AWeber when GetResponse offers the same features for considerably less. I've been very happy with GetResponse and highly recommend it.
