Shopster is a social networking site for finding suppliers (and if you are a supplier, for finding merchants to sell your products). Members can open a free account which allows them to sell 25 products either to the public or to online store owners. It is free to set up a store (hosting and domain name are provided) with only a 5% fee on all products sold. There is no need for merchants to have inventory on hand (though they can sell their own inventory), because the suppliers will drop ship the products and they only get paid after payment is received from the customer.
An account is very simple to set up, you use their design a store feature to actually build the store using templates (you can even upload your own store logo). You network various sales channels (you can sell through ebay, Amazon, or anyplace you like). Members always have control over where they sell the products in their store. Merchants can set their own markups on products and retain all the profit, they can create coupons, newsletters to buyers, set up automatic cross-sells, and they will also receive $25 in Google Adword credit to promote their store. With the free account, members can use their 25 products as a supplier, merchant, or a combination of the two.
As a supplier you would list 25 items in your store (as a free member), then you would wait for merchants to request joining your network. You have the option of approving all members in your network. They advertise your product, make the sale, send you the information and payment, then it is your responsibility to drop ship the product to the customers address.
If after trying it out you decide that 25 products just isn't sufficient, then you can upgrade to a Power Merchant account. Becoming a Power Merchant has two options, you can pay $69.95 per month and you will be able to carry 1000 products in your store or go the yearly route ($549.95) and have up to 1500 items in your store. With millions of products to choose from, there should be no difficulty finding products to fill your store.
Many people enjoy using Shopster, it is a great way to have your own online store without a lot of the hassles normally entailed. You have a basic outline of what is needed for your store even if you have never tried anything like it before. You have access to reputable drop shippers and the cost (even if you upgraded) is reasonable. The amount of money you would make from your store would still all depend on the merchant (or supplier), because having a good product and place to sell them means nothing if you aren't getting it in front of the public eye. But, as a starting point Shopster is a good way to get started, how successful it is after that is up to you.

Hard to get traffic to the store Shopster is a good idea but there are several stumbling blocks that make it hard to make money with it. High product prices combined with monthly fees make it hard to sell on competitive marketplaces like eBay or Amazon. If you plan to sell through your own Shopster store you'll have hard time getting traffic as it is not Search Engine friendly and there is no easy way to edit meta-tags. I wish they used one of the popular open source CMS like WordPress or Drupal as the main framework for their stores. It would have made it much easier to customize and extend with plugins.

Try Get Selling Today - it's better Hey allI was reading all the postings, and I just wanted to tell people about my story. I used Shopster for a couple of months, and I found their fees to be too high for their services. I have been a dropshipper for years now and I try every solution. Shopster for me was not very good at all, their support was not the best, and their product prices were bad. For the average computer user the system is hard to use. |

Not a good buy Shopster is a search firendly engine which makes it hard to find customers. You cannot control their metatags, url page titles, and description. It also makes up the "wholesale" price of the products so much that it is hard to make a profit if you are able to sell something. The inventory is also not correct a good amount of the times. To keep your store open you have to pay a monthly fee. If you still don't sell anything you still have to pay a few and it becomes a waste of money. They encourage people to sell their items on ebay but you can't make money through shopsters because of their very high wholesale price.

Earned some decent money It is more than a month now that I am using Shopster and I have to say that I am pleased with the results I achieved so far. I found the site accidentally while making a Google search and decided to try it since it seemed like a good way to make some sales and increase earnings. I never paid anything for the service since I registered as a free member. The only problem is that the site receives a five percent commission of your sales but for me this is not a problem. The sale limit is just 25 items and I believe that the number could've been higher. I am yet to reach it but with each passing day I am coming closer and closer. Actually before giving the site a shot I was not putting much hopes into the service and Shopster definitely exceeded my expectations. Now after having made decent money I am considering buying the premium package but for now at least the price seems quite exaggerated. The process of setting everything up on Shopster and actually starting to sale is straight forward and it took me just about half an hour, so no one should have problems with that step. Overall going as a free member won't be a bad idea but I am not sure about the paid membership.

Good for free members but expensive to upgrade It was about two months ago when I discovered Shopster. The program seemed promising to me and I decided to try it out. The site was offering a free membership so there wasn't much hesitation whether to try it or not when there was no money involved. The free membership was good enough for me and I was able to sell up to 25 items, which is quite a good number. I was able to get good sales on my product which was a bit of a surprise to me. After seeing the success I had, I wanted to join as premium but when I saw the monthly fee I decided that it won't be worth it - it was just way too expensive. As a free member you still have to pay, but that's only 5% of your sales so this isn't really a problem. After some time I found better opportunities than Shopster which were not as expensive. So in going with a free membership may bring you some additional money bit, it is a bit too limited. For me the price to upgrade was very high and I believe that it would not be worth it.

Expensive to upgrade I joined this site months ago to sell my products online for the first time. I was happy to see that there is a free membership for sites like this, so I immediately signed up. With the free account you can actually sell 25 items. To my surprise my product's sales were really doing well and I was lucky to have online merchant friends. I was very happy at the result of my first trial to sell my products online that I was willing to upgrade as a premium member, but was shocked to see that the monthly fee is very expensive, unlike the free one where you only get to pay 5% of all the sales. Too bad I was not able to upgrade that time because I was just starting in this biz then. All in all I'm giving this site a B. |

This is too expensive for me What I don’t like about Shopster is their monthly fee. This is too expensive for me. As a free member I only have access to 25 items. In order to get access to 1000 items I need to upgrade. The only thing I really like is the easy way I can connect with other merchants. It’s nice to get to know the people I am doing business with. Maybe in the future I will upgrade to be able to have access to more items. For now I am still waiting to see if it’s worth investing the money. Until now I didn’t earn any money with Shopster.

Shopster is not great if you have a lot of items to sell There were quite a few things that I did not like about Shopster. One is that you are limited to 25 items, which is not a lot if you want to remain a free member. The other thing is that you can go to 1000 items, but the monthly price for that is pretty pricey. The only part that I did like about it was that you can connect with other merchants. However, I was a little hesitant to do that as well, as you do not know who you are doing business with. I went with another ecommerce store where I can have unlimited products, and totally customize it for a much lower price.

Works, but needs improvement! I've been looking for a way to make money with a non regular job which is why I decided to try out this system since registering an account is free. What especially attracted me was the fact that their commission rates are as low as 5% unlike many other similar systems. The site allows you to connect and have a dialog with different vendors who you can process products for. This is how you earn money using the system. Of course you can be one of the vendors too, however I was just a "salesman" for the vendors since it seemed to be the most simple option. The system itself is really hard to understand at first which is why I called their support. However it took me a few days to get through, mainly because they kept me waiting on the phone which I don't want to since I live in Denmark and therefore pay high phone rates. Also like previously mentioned my inbox got spammed by various affiliate mails and they went right past my spam filter. All in all the system works, however you need to be prepared to go through some rough times since their support is very limited and it all seems pretty unprofessional! |

My Experience After looking through their homepage I decided I liked their system so I registered a free account. They have much lower commission rates than other drop rate shipping programs out there at only 5% and you even do not need to keep inventory on hand. You simply process the order once has it been placed and deal with the money side of each transaction. Effectively you become a one man salesman for the various vendors you come in contact with their site and affiliate with. On a negative point, my inbox was spammed with many, many emails from them and their affiliates. Worst of all was their non-existent support which failed to reply to support email even within a 7 day window. |

Don't trust anything this site tells you! I was an idiot and signed up for an account because I was dumb enough to believe their ludicrous claims. I had to file a complaint against them a year ago to get a refund. Once you sign up and they get a hold of your email they will spam you to death with their stupid testimonial stories on how great they are how much money you can make. Don't believe anything they say. I lost money and never made a dime in return. I signed up with them because I wanted to create a drop shipping eBay store. When they market their lowest wholesale prices for products they don't mention the fact that after you sign up they suddenly increase all these prices making sure the only way for you to make any profits at all is by selling for a high price. So in case you do manage to make a sale the profits will be bigger for Shopster. After you pay all this money they don't even give you much control over the look and feel of your shop. You can't edit much or add in meta tags tactics to increase your ratings in google, so nobody actually finds your shop unless you go through eBay where the competition is way ahead of you. Just stay away. These guys are scum. |
