Grade Tripod Free Website Hosting ...

Tripod is a free and paid web hosting and website building service. A branch of the Lycos network, which was founded by online and offline businessman Bob Davis, this service makes it easy for anyone, even non-technical people, to build their own websites. Through the use of templates, tools and resources, websites can be built through the service without the need to know any type of coding.
There are a few services on the internet today that offer free web hosting and free website building, and Tripod is one of the most established of these services. Its parent company, Lycos, has been around since 1995. Though the service can easily be used by people who are beginners to website building, that doesn’t mean that it’s only for building casual, personal sites. Even people who want to build and run business websites should be able to do so with this service.
When you sign up with Tripod, you get a choice of five different web hosting packages. These plans are the free plan, Tripod Plus for $4.95 per month, Tripod Pro at $8.95 per month, Tripod Webmaster at $11.95 per month and Tripod Deluxe at $19.95 per month. With the free plan you get 20 meg of disk space and 1 gig of bandwidth, along with website building tools. There will also be ads shown on your site. The rest of the plans, as they go up in price, offer successively more disk space, more bandwidth and more tools. People who want to run business websites or organization websites will choose one of the paid packages. For many people, though, the free plan offers enough.
When you build your website through Tripod, you get a host of different tools that make it easy. These include such things as site templates, text boxes, HTML editing boxes, a photo album tool, and a file manager. Most of these features are user-friendly for anyone, although some of the features that come with the higher-priced packages are for more experienced web designers.
Tripod has an excellent reputation as a web hosting and website building service, especially the free service that it offers. Many people use this service for their personal or business websites, and feedback on ease of use and customer support is overwhelmingly positive. Especially for people with little experience who are looking to build websites, this service could be worth trying.

An annoying web host I joined tripod when I didn't have much knowledge about web hosting, as recommended by my friend. What I have got to say about tripod is about my annoying experiences with them. The only good thing about them was the Webpage builder which according to me is a bit easy for a newbie. The most annoying thing about them was the pop-up and the ad they display on our site. Many of my visitors gave up visiting my website just because of this reason. This was one of the main reasons that I gave up on this host. Many other reasons include, the terrible customer service. They actually don't care about the free users and never respond to our inquiries. Whenever I tried to contact them, I always get automatic responses. The server uptime was also not so reliable. Overall, I was never satisfied with this and I had to soon switch to a different web host. Conclusion: I would never recommend this web host to anyone, even if you build you website for fun. They would surely annoy you. There are better free hosts than this out there. |

It's okay but not great I tried to use tripod a few years ago and I was not impressed. There are so many better free website builders out there. I found Tripod to be ungainly and rather difficult to navigate and I was not impressed with their templates. In my opinion they seemed rather lame. I don't know if it was me but I found my tripod website did not load as fast as I though it should. Could have been all the ads slowing it down. I certainly wasn't impressed enough to fork over money to get the no ad version. All in all it would be useful for those who want to take the time to work out the glitches but for me it did not work well. I am hoping that since I last used it they had made some improvements. I just like a little more control I guess. |

Easy, but not professional enough I tried Tripod a few years ago, with free hosting. I decided to try it out because it would take a few bucks off my monthly bill, and it was quite easy to use. However, as my business grew larger, I found Tripod to be worse and worse. One thing is how unprofessional it is. As all free hosting sites have this problem, I can't really blame them. But most importantly, the capacity of the site began to trouble me. Around a 20 MB limit, I couldn't put up much stuff that promotes my site well. Also you don't have much control over your website, which is disturbing. Same problems are there for the paid hosting on Tripod. There just isn't enough freedom for you unlike other websites, making this a bad choice for advanced sites. But for beginners who are just learning or starting their businesses, Tripod is the number one currently. |

Difficult to use I've found this website rather difficult to use. For those who can navigate the shell it's perfect. But, when I did this I was a beginner and I found it very hard to get much accomplished. I eventually just gave up on it. I don't mind putting a little effort into it, but I was a beginner at the time. Their help files weren't very helpful, and while some of it was 'point and click' most required software and what not to upload pre-existing files. Now that I'm more skilled, I still wouldn't return unless I felt up to hand-coding web pages again. |

Tripod Is Worth It I remember way back around the year 2000 when I started using Tripod to build my websites, back then I used tons of different free hosts, but this one was one of my favorites. The ads, well you know I did not like that part, but the rest was not too bad. The file manager was literally easy to use, so easy I think even a 3 year old could do it!I would highly recommend Tripod, I think it's because this was one of the first places where I learned how to code my sites, and it was a fun and easy way to learn HTML and design. I may at some point go back and try this out, I may want to start a small blog, and Tripod will be my number one choice. |

It's okay for newbies. I recommend spending money on a good web host I had a choice between Tripod and Bravenet when I was first starting out with a webcomic host, and I was rudely surprised at how Tripod's free hosting plan was like. There was not enough web space for me to build a site for my webcomic, only 20 mb. What also kinda drove me up the wall were the banners. It was just very limited, I wasn't happy. I highly recommend just going out and paying for a good hosting plan if you want to get serious with making a website. The only upside to this I think is that their free hosting plan was easy to use and pretty straight forward for the most part. Also, another good thing about it is, of course, it's free. A student could probably find their free service to be useful. |

Not recommended I used tripod to make my very first website. At the time I must say it was very good because it was quick and easy. But you didn't have complete control over your website. The templates are horrible, and you can't use your own templates, and you don't have ftp (File Transfer Protocol) which means you can't upload anything to your site. There are much better free hosting sites out there. |

Not recommended free hosting This is another hosting service that I used, I tried the free package to make a simple website about music. This was not my first experience in making websites, but the other hostings that I've tried were easier to use than this one. I don't like this site, the interface is really complicated and the web styles that they offered are quite simple and bad looking. I worked a lot on my site and tried to use nearly all combinations of styles and colors but none of them appeal to me. With the premium package they offer more (and I suppose better) styles, so I believe that you can do a good page paying but because of my bad experience with the free package I didn't spend money there. In conclusion I think that it is not a good free hosting, there are others better and more simple than this one. |

Great for those who build websites from scratch I've designed several websites for practice and used Tripod to host them. It is a very easy process to use. Over the last few years, I have noticed that Tripod's overall features have improved, but the convenience has not changed. In my experience, it has worked best with html files I’ve coded myself as well as files created with Microsoft FrontPage. There are many free hosting sites out there, but they are targeted more toward beginners who can use the page creation features provided by the site rather than uploading their own html content. The only drawback you get when using free services such as this is the substantial amount of ads that viewers encounter on your site.

Is Good for Newbie This website is almost same like other available websites online. I took Tripod Deluxe at 19.95$ per month, it is not worth it's price. After developing the site, some people were still facing bandwidth problem when viewing my site. Regarding developing options it is very easy to use specially for newbie it is very easy to develop a website by getting a host of may tools that make it easier like site templates, text boxes, HTML editing boxes, a photo album tool, and a file manager. As my personal experience the site is just an okay. There are many other better hosting companies on the net.
